Adeniji Mayowa Since the new Vice Chancellor, Prof Ogunbodede, took over the seat of the highest office in the administration level of Obafemi Awolowo University, Meeting up with other Institutions in terms of academic calendar has been a priority. The management of the university has made a lot of decisions, some have been favourable to students while some haven't - but they have all been aimed at fostering the academic calendar of the university. The last semester of the 2017/2018 session witnessed an ASUU strike that rocked the larger part of it. Despite a significant number of the academic staff belonging under the ASUU umbrella, the university went on with lectures. Image
Habeeb Waliyu Rules of a language need to be learnt for effective usage of that particular language If we intend to use devout as an adjective before a word(noun), do we say "devoted Muslim/Christian or we say devout Muslim/Christian." The correct usage of 'devout' as an adjective that modifies a noun is devout Muslim/Christian Devout : This means believing  strongly in a particular religion and obeying its laws and practices. E.g. i. A devout Catholic ii. A devout member of Muslim students society of Nigeria iii. They have a devout Muslim in their family. "Devout" can also be used as a devout hope or wish  which means you feel very strongly about something. E.g It's my devout hope that we travel together in peace. The adverbial form of 'devout' is  devoutly which means very strongly. E.g. 1. She devoutly hoped he was telling the truth. 2. A devoutly disciplined religion. We need to be grammatically inclined

EPL: Chelsea Draws Manchester United at Old Trafford

Image
The race for top-four finish in the English Premier League is still very much open following the 1-1 score line recorded in the Super Sunday clash between Manchester United and Chelsea. David de Gea made another costly goalkeeping error as the Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw by the Blues. Juan Mata had given United a deserved first-half lead against his former employers in what had been dubbed a “must-win” match for the hosts. However, De Gea’s mistake gifted an equaliser to Marcos Alonso as Chelsea boosted their hopes of Champions League qualification. The result leaves Maurizio Sarri’s side still fourth on the table and two points above fifth-placed Arsenal, whereas United must overhaul a three-point deficit as well as their inferior goal difference during the final two games of the season to snatch a champions league spot. After Sunday’s difficult test against Chelsea, United have two winnable fixtures to conclude their campaign: against Huddersfield Town (A) an

When Suicide Becomes an Option By Kingsley Ndimele.

Image
Cases of hopelessness, loss of pleasure in life, depression and anxiousness have led many people to commit suicide. Unexpected loss of a family member or friend, sudden loss of a job, medical diagnoses, a breakup, sexual abuse, social isolation or stigmatization and increasing relative poverty compared to those around a person may increase the risk of suicide. Some people have committed suicide due to issues of debt. In adults, being a burden to others can be overwhelming. Often, I meet young ones especially, who become extremely distressed at the face of challenging circumstances. As a student in the university, there were several reported cases of suicide, some of which were traceable to poor academic performances. For some, public disgrace or humiliation makes it intolerable to go on living; while, for others, the post-traumatic stress of imprisonment can be so devastating. Worldwide, approximately 22 million people attempt suicide yearly. Suicide accounts for more death

Image
(OPINION) Great Ife, Where Art Thou? By Kazeem Olalekan. Truth be told, the absence of a coordinated Students' Union body on our campus poses a very serious threat to everyone of us as students. Ipso facto, the students' union has always been the body through which the students collectively and in unison speak against societal ills. These range from the insincerity of the government in acting according to the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) to cater for the security and welfare of the people which include investing in education to the high-handedness of the University management while trying to cover-up for the inefficiency and ineptitude of the government; the Union, historically through its Security Committee which was constituted aftermath the July 10 cultists' attack addresses security matters as it affects its members, the students. However, it is rather unfortunate that the University management has not de
