Some students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife, who are occupants of the Angola Hall of residence Block G, were sent away from their rooms without any alternative provision.
This News agency discovered that the reason for displacing these occupants from their rooms was because their Block is currently undergoing renovation, albeit without any alternative abode for the students to stay till the completion of the renovation.
Some of the occupants of the Hall of residence spoke with this paper expressing their feelings about the development. Due to the peculiarity of the situation their identity were concealed.
One of the occupants who spoke with this Paper said that the reason for sending them away from their rooms was because the Block is under renovation and also noted that the school authorities did not make any provision as regards where to stay.
"We were sent away from our hostel because they (school authorities) are renovating our block. No provision was made for us as regards where to stay. They (school authorities) only told us to go and squat with our friends in other hostels," he said.
He also lamented the mal-treatment meted out to them by the people working in his room stating they could not pack their loads away from the room and whenever they go to their room to take something that they (occupants) are chastised.
"We could not pack away our properties such as mattresses and cloths from the room. Whenever we go there to make use of them, they (hall portal) usually shout on us," he lamented.
Another occupant who spoke with this paper said that the reason behind their extradition from their rooms was because it is undergoing renovation. However, there was no alternative place for them to stay.
"Yes, we were sent packing from our room but it is just for renovation. And no provision was made for us. We were only told to leave and find a place to stay as the renovation is ongoing," He said.
Another occupant of the Block who make his grievances known stated they were sent out without any provision made for them as regards where to stay and also cited the harassment of the hall portals any time they go back to their rooms.
"All students in Block G in Angola have been chased out without providing provisions for us. To make the matter worse, whenever we go back to relax in our various rooms because we did not have a good rest only for the portals to be harassing us," he complained.
He further pleaded for assistance noting that their mid semester test is around the corner.
"Please help us do something about this because CA is around the corner and we can't continue like this. They said we should go and squat with our friends but most of them are not convenient with us and we are not convenient too," he pleaded.
Meanwhile, all efforts to contact the Dean, Division of Students' Affairs, Prof. Isiaka Aransi, proved abortive as all calls and texts were not acknowledged.
