Confusion Clears as West African Universities Game 2023 Unfolds at OAU

Abdulbasit Abdulkareem   The 2023 West African Universities Games (WAUG'23) commenced at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife on Friday, 15th December, 2023, signifying the arrival of participating universities across the region. However, today, 16th December, witnessed a moment of confusion among students as the expected kick-off did not materialize. In a chat with OAU Kilonshele, Great Ife Students' Union Director of Sports, Sumbade Saudiq, provided clarification, stating that December 15th was reserved for the arrival of all participating universities. In an exciting update, it has also been revealed that the Opening Ceremony will hold at the Sports Complex on Sunday, 17th, December, adding an extra layer of anticipation and festivity to the event. Edun Precious The West African University Games (WAUG) has been slated to commence on the 15th of December 2023 and guess which institution is hosting this edition? 'Ma je ko lo far' (Don't think too much), it is Oba Awon University. The renowned Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife known as Africa's Most Beautiful Campus will play host to several participating institutions at the OAU sports complex. WAUG, also known as ECOWAS Students' Games, is a multi-sport event among student-athletes from Universities in the African sub-region. It is always held at a 4-year interval and the last edition took place at the University of Port-Harcourt, Rivers State in November 2018. The first edition of the competition was held at the University of Ibadan back in 1965.
