In royal colourful event, Association of Campus Journalists OAU celebrates 50 years of stardom

Lawal Olanrewaju The 50th anniversary of the Association of Campus Journalists Obafemi Awolowo University was a reunion of notable alumni and the sensitization of prospective campus journalists.  The anniversary witnessed a host of dignified and noble journalists from all walks of life in celebrating the landmark occasion. The event, which was packaged to recognize the indefatigable effort of both past and immediate members of the association for their persistent effort at visualizing and effecting investigative journalism and ensuring ideal content is generated to people for consumption.  The association deemed it right to use the occasion to train campus journalists on media literacy and the capitalization of technology in promoting fact-proof sources through the theme “Media Literacy and Digitalization (Past, Present, and Future). ACJOAU Releases Finalists for Adejumo Kabir Essay Contest

Ajibade Abdullah Adewale As the Association of Campus Journalists, Obafemi Awolowo University (ACJOAU) prepares for its annual International Campus Journalism Conference and celebration of its 50th anniversary, the association has released the top 8 finalists for the Adejumo Kabir Essay Contest.  The Essay contest is sponsored by Adejumo Kabir an alumnus of the Association who's an Assistant Investigations Editor, HumanAngle Media. The Top 8 finalists include Ajao Oluwatimileyin, Alimi Azeez, Aluko-Olokun Kikilobaoluwa, Babalola Segun from Medicine and Surgery, Ayobami Olaoluwa Andrew, Peace Ajayi from Law, Ogbonna Amarachi from Institute of Education and Zainab Adewale from the English Department.  While congratulating the finalists, Adejumo Kabir noted that the quality of the submissions is a testimony that the students have good skills that could land them a job in Nigerian Mainstream Journalism.  He stated that the reason for sponsoring the essay contest is to leave ...

50th Anniversary: ACJOAU holds Media Literacy Outreach, Partners Plogging Nigeria for "Clean Up OAU"

Ajibade Abdullah Adewale As part of the activities for the 50th anniversary and the International Campus Journalism Conference(ICJC), the Association of Campus Journalists On Wednesday, May 3, 2023, visited Urban Day Secondary School, Ile Ife to educate the students on the benefits of Media Literacy and the danger of Fake news.  Engaging the students, Adeyanju Michelle, a member of the association highlighted the advantages of media literacy. She educated the students on the danger of fake news and also put them through how to spot fake news.  In a related development, on Thursday, May 4, 2023, the association also partnered with Plogging Nigeria, a group promoting a culture of responsible waste handling and physical fitness in Nigeria for "Clean Up OAU" The activity had over 40 members who participated as they transitioned from one location to the other to ensure a waste-free environment.  Speaking on the activities, the President of the Association, Faith Alofe noted t...

 OAU KILONSHELE   A former Editor-in-chief of the reputable campus news hub- OAU KILONSHELE , Alfred Olufemi, has emerged as one of the winners of the 2023 African Prize for Investigative Journalism (PAJI). The award launched in 2021 geared at promoting and encouraging Investigative Journalism in Africa, was held in Dakar, Senegal, on Wednesday eve. The 2023 edition of PAJI is organised by Media & Democracy (M&D) in collaboration with the Senegalese Centre d’Études des Sciences et Techniques de l’Information (CESTI). Olufemi, a multiple award-winning investigative journalist, was named the winner of the Print category. He was also presented with the golden award and a cash prize of one million West African CFA. Olufemi’s entry is an in-depth investigation into the discharge of poisonous chemicals into a flowing river linking several local communities in Oyo state.  Olabode Oluwafemi   In the early hours of Monday, Ile-Ife residents were thrown into anguish as commuters and students got stranded at almost every Ile-Ife bus stop as they await the commercial buses to convey them to their various destinations and location. The tussle didn't sideline OAU students who are being accommodated outside the university community, as they await their shuttle bus drivers fondly called "town-'gboro" to transport them to the campus for lectures, tests and other activities.
