50th Anniversary: ACJOAU holds Media Literacy Outreach, Partners Plogging Nigeria for "Clean Up OAU"

As part of the activities for the 50th anniversary and the International Campus Journalism Conference(ICJC), the Association of Campus Journalists On Wednesday, May 3, 2023, visited Urban Day Secondary School, Ile Ife to educate the students on the benefits of Media Literacy and the danger of Fake news.
Engaging the students, Adeyanju Michelle, a member of the association highlighted the advantages of media literacy. She educated the students on the danger of fake news and also put them through how to spot fake news.
In a related development, on Thursday, May 4, 2023, the association also partnered with Plogging Nigeria, a group promoting a culture of responsible waste handling and physical fitness in Nigeria for "Clean Up OAU"
The activity had over 40 members who participated as they transitioned from one location to the other to ensure a waste-free environment.
Speaking on the activities, the President of the Association, Faith Alofe noted that the reason for the Media literacy outreach is an attempt to reach out to young and growing students and help them to get adequately informed on how to be a master of social media and not the other way round.
She further said that it is an attempt to educate the students on the dangers of fake news.
Subsequently, she described the decision to partner with Plogging Nigeria as a way of giving back to society by being a source of positive change.
“ Since one of the missions of Plogging Nigeria is to create a conducive environment for the people, we figured that partnering with them will serve as a way of contributing to the environment and the community at large,” she reiterated.
