Students' Union Action Committee Calls for Aggressive Campaign Against Armed Security Agents on Campus

The students' union action committee, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife, has called for aggressive campaign against armed security agents on the campus.
In a letter signed by Dunnex Samuel, the chairman of the committee, the committee argued that the presence of the armed security agents is beginning to create panic and intimidation for students.
It should be recalled that there was a shooting in the new market area of the university a few days ago. The cause of the shooting has not been clarified by the school, however, eyewitnesses stated that the shooting occurred due to the security agents trying to get a car with some guys stopped.
The action committee noted that the approach of the security agents will make it hard to differentiate between them and cultists.
"Such approach will make it even difficult to verify whether an attack was perpetrated by the DSS/Police or by gangs of the underworld (cultists). As it is now, the cases of assault on students for 'indecent dressing is at an alarming rate," the action committee stated.
The committee pointed that students must not fail to learn from the results of other schools that have adopted this security means.
"Again students must not fail to draw lessons from other campuses which have posts for these state and para-security forces yet cultism still flourishes; meaning they can give a false impression of safety while the campus is made susceptible to cultists infiltration."
Thus, aggressive campaign must begin against the continual occupation of the campus by these elements. The tradition of Great Ife Students' union is to declare persona non-grata to these state agents," the committee noted.
The committee also berated the Institution's attitude to students' mortality rate.
