OAU KILONSHELE Welcomes New Members

OAU Kilonshele, the leading news agency on Obafemi Awolowo University campus welcomed new inductees by organizing a training for them on Saturday, 4th of May.
The training which was meant to introduce the new inductees to the different angles of news writing and reporting held at Hmanities block.
The training was divided into three sections which are: basic knowledge of journalism, data journalism and the usefulness of social media in reporting.
Mr Olufemi Alfred, a news reporter with PREMIUM TIMES newspaper and also the outgoing editor of the agency enlightened the participants on how to write a good news report, to stop the act of plagiarism and spreading of fake news.
He also spoke to the participants on checking and verifying the authenticity of the news before getting it across to the public.
"As a journalist, you are responsible to the reader and the public. Journalism is for the benefit of the public good and if you are writing a news report that doesn't benefit the public, then you are not writing a news report," he said.
Mr Uthman Samad, a news reporter with The Cable newspaper and the deputy editor at OAU Peeps, educated the journalists on data Journalism and news writing.
"Leaks is an undisclosed news while freedom of information is used to get information from big firms, organization, etc. it's an act amended in the constitution in 2009," he said.
He also encouraged the participants on how to engage their reader to visualize data which is also useful in news reporting.
Mr.Oludiran Olusola, the President of Association of Campus Journalists in OAU, spoke on opportunities for the participants and how to be an active member of correspondent chapel, a branch in ACJ which is meant for the reporters in different agencies in the association.
Mr Olarenwaju Oyedeji, the erstwhile President of ACJOAU and the founder of Technology Market, congratulated the new inductees and also lectured them on the effectiveness of Online journalism in this 21st century.
He highlighted the advantages of being an online journalist on social media platform and also created opportunities for the participants who are ready to learn more on how to use technology to disseminate information effectively.
