Omotola Akorede Kayode, a part three student of Micro Biology died in the early morning of Friday, 17th of May while playing football.
Omotola was involved as a left back in his department's annual football match between the fresh students and the returning students when he slumped.
According to the report released by the school authority, it was stated that he slumped on the pitch and died before arrival at the school health centre.
"We regret to inform the university community that one of our students, a part three student in the department of Microbiology, OMOTOLA Akorede Kayode died suddenly this morning, Friday 17th May 2019."
"The report had it that the student was playing football with his colleagues when he slumped. He was subsequently rushed to the health centre, where he was confirmed dead on arrival. All resuscitative measures proved abortive," the school authority note in their report.
However, in an interview with OAU Kilonshele, some of the deceased's colleagues who were present at the scene of the occurrence provided a contrary reason as to "why and where" Omotola actually died.
A part three student of the department who preferred to be addressed as Jinadu, shared his own side of the story with our correspondent stating that the deceased actually slumped on the pitch while playing football alongside him and was rushed to the health centre for proper treatment.
"Omotola Korede slumped on OAU's training pitch this morning. We were playing a Novelty match between Freshers and Stalites. He was playing left back, and he was standing alone when he fell down. Nobody touched him, he was standing with his fellow defenders and started having breathing difficulty. We tried to give him CPR but nobody has much knowledge about it. Just after few minutes, he was rushed to the health centre immediately in a fellow student's car." Jinadu said.
Furthermore, he stated that Omotola Akorede was still alive and gasping for air when they arrived at the health centre but the health centre workers did not give him the appropriate medical treatment that could suffice to resuscitate him as at that moment.
"He was still alive and fighting to catch his breath when we got to the health centre. He was taking to the Emergency unit and to my funniest surprise, they brought out a drip. To my own small knowledge, I believe someone in that kind of situation should be provided with oxygen tank to at least make him gain consciousness. He died while receiving their improper treatment" Jinadu continued.
He also made it known to us that one of the workers in the health centre made a warning statement that no one should ever tell the public he died at the health centre.
"Then one woman who I couldn't recognize her face made a statement that nobody should post that he died in the health centre. Whereas he died there, and he was taken to OAUTH mortuary in an health centre's Ambulance." Jinadu claimed.
Another eye witness, a part three student of the department who spoke with OAU Kilonshele's correspondence pleaded anonymity due to the sensitivity of the case in question.
He confirmed that his colleague died in the health centre as opposed to what the school authority reported. He noted that they lost him due to the fact that the health centre lacked the necessary facilities. He also made mention of the female health centre worker who told them not to tell anyone that Omotola died in the health centre.
"It was due to the fact that the Health centre doesn't have the necessary apparatus to revive him. In that kind of situation, he needs oxygen so as to place him in the right order for other treatments," he said.
"And one of the nurses there made a grievous statement by saying we shouldn't say he died in their place," he stated.
Meanwhile, when OAU Kilonshele contacted the Director General of Health Centre, he refused to speak. He also didn't reply or acknowledge the text message sent to him.
Omotola Kayode is the second student of the institution that will die as a result of alleged ineptitude and negligence in less than six months.
