In a meeting to proffer solutions to the incessant robbery attacks in Ile-Ife on Wednesday, three students of Obafemi Awolowo University were arrested by the school's security officers

OAU KILONSHELE reported the decision of the Great Ife Action Committee to consult students on how to curb the menace.

In less than four months, this news outfit reported over 13 robbery cases in students dominated areas of Ile-Ife.

Olowolafe Samuel (Dunnex), a 300 level student; Owoeye Olaoluwa (Olamarx), a 200 level student of law and Omole Ibukun, a final year student of Civil Engineering were arrested around 5pm at the venue of the public meeting called by the Students' union  action committee.

This correspondent gathered that the three were later released at the wee hours of Wednesday.

Speaking with OAU KILONSHELE, Mr. Samuel said the arrest was as a result of some of them making a video coverage of how the hall wardens were harassing them.

Olowolafe Samuel at Television Continental Lagos head office.

He said, "they were calling me thief so I had to leave the place and came back when I felt running from them would make their allegation true."

"All we tried to do was to have a civil meeting with other students so as to come up with a resolution of how we can help our colleagues being attacked, robbed in town"

Another victim of the arrest, Mr. Omole, told OAU KILONSHELE that he wasn't there to attend the meeting but to deliver something to Mr. Owoeye when he saw the harassment of his colleagues.

"I couldn't just leave seeing that yesterday so that's why I followed the security men myself".

He said all his efforts to out a call across to the Chief Security Officer of the University, Babatunde Oyatokun, personally was abortive because the latter was on another call at the moment.

"A female student who was also filming the incident was assaulted by the warden. Her cloth ripped off. She had to cover herself with her inner wear", He added.

However, while the security chief, Mr. Oyatokun, was addressing the affected students and some of the action committee members on Thursday, he claimed ignorant of the arrest.

In the meeting witnessed by our correspondent, He said;  "I was very disappointed in you guys for what happened yesterday was as a result of lack of understanding. You guys knowing the situation in Fajuyi hall shouldn't have decided to hold any meeting there."

"I was not on campus as at the time of the crisis so any allegation that I didn't want to attend or order for the arrest of you guys is false."

Meanwhile, the security chief said that the recurring robbery attacks in students-dominated areas is also known to the management with efforts to quell it ongoing.

He then implore the action committee to do away with anything that might cause violence as that can affect the peace of the University community.

It should be noted that the school spokesperson, Abiodun Olanrewaju, in a telephone conversation with OAU KILONSHELE, stressed that the school security cannot cater for students staying off-campus.
