Dear Fresh Ones, Welcome to Our Ted Talk.
Dear Fresh ones, we hope y'all have had a wonderful first week? Obafemi Awolowo University's most informative and Journalistic outfit would like to welcome you to a new phase in your various lives. There is not much advice to give as you have all been orientated by your various departments and the school generally, even by parents and old ones. People give advice from their own perspectives and you would have to pick out the ones that suit your purpose. This write-up is aimed at clarifying and guiding. So, welcome to our Ted talk.
Whether you are determined and really love your course or your course is just a disguise to acheive your other aims, you really have to assign a high level of seriousness to it. None of those two reasons is bad as long as you respect the fact that your academics should be taken serious.
Like the motto, Obafemi Awolowo University is for learning and culture. Unless I'm making a mistake, it doesn't specify what to learn. And that's what makes it lovely! Honestly, don't be deceived by people that will tell you that your academics is everything; that statement might later be one of the things you'd wish you never heard. If you think extra curricular activities are important; trust me, they're. If you feel you should work on developing yourself in a particular aspect; trust me, you should. If you feel you should make your interest your career; trust me, you should. If you want to work on balancing your academics with making use of your talent; trust me, you should. Anything you think matters and should be prioritised is what matters and should be prioritised. Like a wise man one said, "Number one rule, no rule."
As exhilarating as a tertiary institution can be, it can be damaging if you are bad at balancing. Imagine prioritizing reading the Bible during an exam period. Oh no, it might have been late before you get to the part where stupidity was condemned. Do what you want to do without neglecting what you need to do. Remain sane, don't glorify stupidity and most especially come to term with the fact that your academics is just a part of your life and that grades do not define intelligence and neither do they define your whole life.
Stay safe while living your life, and remain cool. OAU Kilonshele welcomes you.
