EFCC remands 13 OAU Students in Custody

On Friday, The Economic Financial Crime Commission went to The Federal High court in Oshogbo to receive an order of remand for 13 students of Obafemi Awolowo University who were suspected to have involved in Fraudulent activities. The suspects who were arrested in the early hours of Wednesday 1st November, alongside 56 others have been in the custody of EFCC since then.

Confirming the number of students that are present in the EFCC custody, the President of the Great Ife Students' Union, Abass Ojo LoRdFeM, explained that the number of students who were remanded in EFCC custody is 13. Furthermore, he noted that 57 were earlier released by the agency, and 12 were remanded in custody.

Meanwhile, earlier yesterday, a student was rearrested by the Economic Financial Crime Commission due to criminative object found on his phone. The President noted that the number of total released from custody is 56, and presently there are 13 in custody.

The President, Abass Ojo while speaking on the 13 students present in EFCC custody, noted that the students cannot be kept in custody for 48 hours without getting a remand order from the court, which is the reason why the EFCC took the suspected students to court in Oshogbo on Friday.

He therefore called on students who are familiar with the suspected students to reach out to their parents to get lawyers for their wards.Furthermore, he noted that the Students' Union Leadership has tried to reach out to families of some students in the custody of EFCC.

Speaking on the released students, he said 'As regards clearing the names of the released, you’ll hear from us soon as we have made progress on it.'
