TESAOAU Electoral Committee Lifts Ban on Election Campaigns

Abdulbasit Abdulkareem Wednesday, November 30th, the Electoral Committee of the Technology and Engineering Students' Association (TESA) at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), chaired by Abdulkabir Lukman Adelodun (Hon Khalifa), has officially lifted the ban on election campaigns.  The committee declared the campaign floor open for the election of new executives, effective from Wednesday, November 30th, until a day before the election day. Abdulkabir Lukman Adelodun, speaking through the committee's Public Relations Officer, Omoniyi Aliyy (Hon Noble), mandated all aspirants and their supporters to uphold a standard of conduct that aligns with their studentship and follow the constitution of the association. The call for decorum was extended to both the campaign activities and interactions within the association.   Oluwasegun Akintunde Public Voice News Agency, on Wednesday, November 28th, held her induction ceremony to welcome its new members. The event commenced with Miss Nelly Obianuju the Deputy EIC of the Agency hosting and Miss Mould Precious the Assistant General Secretary leading an opening prayer, setting a tone of reverence for the proceedings which began with singing the national anthem and the school anthem. Adeniran Tolulope Claim: On Monday, a Facebook User named Muyiwa Ogunnaike made a controversial claim that the Linguistic and African language Student, Enitan Subair, who embarked on a 50-hour Wash-a-thon was hospitalized. This claim was also published on Vanguard and Punch , it was stated that she was hospitalized. Enitan, who finished the Longest hour of hand washing at 58 hours from November 24th to 26th, was claimed to be hospitalized after a picture of her hand which turned white, and a video of her on a sick bed surfaced on social media. The post from the Facebook User went viral and generated a lot of comments from users of social media, and even on other social media platforms.  Some of the comments show that the Facebook User, Muyiwa Ogunnaike spread a piece of unconfirmed information about the students, while others criticized the user for spreading unconfirmed information. OAU Sets for 47th Convocation Ceremony, to Restrict Vehicular Movement

Abdulbasit Abdulkareem The management of Obafemi Awolowo University has disclosed the plan for the 47th Convocation Ceremony, which is set to be held from Wednesday, December 6th to Saturday, December 9th, 2023.  The University management, in a statement released on the school website, has outlined the temporary traffic restrictions and the measures to be followed by the staff members of the university to allow them to enter the campus during the convocation period. The statement noted that movement of Vehicles in and out of the campus will be prohibited. Furthermore, only Staff Members of the University possessing the University's Car Stickers were said to be allowed into the campus.  The University Management therefore advises individuals who have no University car Stickers to process the necessary documentation before the commencement of the convocation ceremony. Adeniran Tolulope The Great IFE Students Representatives Council, Friday, November 25, held its first sitting since the resumption of the students to campus and perhaps the inauguration of the members of the Students' Representatives Council at the Awo Cafe of the Obafemi Awolowo Hall of Residence.  During the sitting, a petition written by a former honorable member of the SRC from the faculty of Technology, Fawole Iyanuoluwa was read and passed on to the house but was countered and therefore scrapped. The petition had in statement that the Union Election should be held in the coming session, which initially was scheduled to be held at the end of the second semester of a session. Combining work, personal commitments, and family responsibility with schooling, this became a great burden to manage within 24 hours. In fact, my first examination in the program was written a day after the naming ceremony of my second child. Financial Management was also a challenge. Living expenses, children’s school fees together with my school fees, and other financial expenses. I had decided to quit several times due to financial constraints but with the help of God, friends, and families I was able to achieve my dream. The esteemed Great Ife Students' Representative Council (SRC), entrusted with the responsibility of parliamentary proceedings, seems to be caught in a web of inaction.  The Sacrosanct Constitution of the Great IFE Students’ Union , in Article II, Section 10, subsection 3 states that “ the speaker shall summon the meetings of the SRC ”. This part of the constitution clearly state that the Speaker of the SRC is given the constitutional duty of calling for the Parliamentary sitting of the Great IFE Students' Representative Council.  Has the Speaker of the SRC, Rt . Great IFE Students’ Union Holds Sports’ Fiesta for Freshmen

Abdulbasit Abdulkareem, Johnson Precious The Office of the Sports Director of the Great IFE Students’ in the display of athletic prowess is currently hosting the Sports Fiesta which is part of the scheduled programs to welcome Freshmen of the Obafemi Awolowo University to Campus.  Earlier on Tuesday, November 14th, during the Opening Ceremony of, the Sports Fiesta, which was held at the Main bowl of the University’s Sports Complex, the Faculty of  Science freshmen team won the opening match against Freshmen from the Faculty of Social with 4 goals to 1. Meanwhile, the program continued with football matches and scrabble games on Wednesday, November 15. The Scrabble games which had in attendance, representatives from each faculty, was held in both male and female category. Other featured games were the video games, PES FIFA and Mortal Combat, and chess, among other recreational activities. Spectators were seen cheering on the participants for their talents.

The increase in the snacks's payment took effect as of Monday, November 13th. 'As E dey Hot' is famously known for its hot snacks; puff-puff, egg-buns, buns, risky, etc. OAU Kilonshele Reporter gathered that the snacks have increased from their initial price  Buns and Puff: ₦80 each, ₦150 for 2 Doughnuts: ₦200 each Eggbuns: ₦300 each. Their contributions, ranging from cutting-edge research presentations to insightful discussions, underscored OAU's commitment to advancing knowledge in the field of rotavirus studies. Dr. Margaret Japhet and her Ph.D. student, Mr. Temiloluwa Omotade , received travel grants to showcase their research at the 14th International African Rotavirus Symposium. EFCC Remands 13 OAU Students In Custody

Adeniran Tolulope EFCC remands 13 OAU Students in Custody On Friday, The Economic Financial Crime Commission went to The Federal High court in Oshogbo to receive an order of remand for 13 students of Obafemi Awolowo University who were suspected to have involved in Fraudulent activities. The suspects who were arrested in the early hours of Wednesday 1st November, alongside 56 others have been in the custody of EFCC since then.  Confirming the number of students that are present in the EFCC custody, the President of the Great Ife Students' Union , Abass Ojo LoRdFeM, explained that the number of students who were remanded in EFCC custody is 13. Furthermore, he noted that 57 were earlier released by the agency, and 12 were remanded in custody. Olayinka Ifeoluwa   Following the early hour break-in of the supposedly Law enforcement agency; the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) that led to the arrest of the students of Obafemi Awolowo University who were allegedly recognized as internet fraudsters with no evidence to warrant their arrest, which led to a great brouhaha amongst the concerned students of the Obafemi Awolowo University which in turn led to both online and on-site protests. Several infringements of the students' human rights were expressed beginning from their right to privacy and the height of all, which is the defamation of their identities. These actions of the EFCC again clearly shows what struggling young adult in Nigeria faces day in and day out while struggling for a means of survival. EFCC Bans Night Raid As 58 OAU Students Regains Freedom

Adeniran Tolulope Following the actions of the Great IFE Students' Union against the arrest of 69 Students arrested by EFCC, 58 of the 69 students have regained their freedom from EFCC custody.  Earlier in the press release made available on the EFCC Social media handle, the EFCC agents were said to have arrested 69 students of Obafemi Awolowo University, for fraudulent activities. Phones, laptops, cars, and other incriminating objects were reported carted away by the Economic Financial Crime Commission agents.  Meanwhile, during the release of the 58 OAU students, which came after the intervention of the Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, the Executive chairman of EFCC, Mr Ola Olukayode stated that the agency has banned the Night raid activity of the agents.  Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier said he had contacted the Attorney General of the state, to work together with the students so as for the innocent students to be released. Adeniran Tolulope Students of Obafemi Awolowo University mounted the main gate of the University Campus to protest the arrest of their colleagues by the Economic Financial Crime Commission.  The arrest which was described by students as an Unwarranted one was done by the Economic Financial Crime Commission agents in the early hours of Wednesday, at two hostels, Fine Touch and Superb Hostels situated at the Oduduwa Estate of Ile-Ife. While some students Troop out to the EFCC Office at Ibadan, Other Students of the university this evening have also demanded the freedom of the students in EFCC custody. Earlier in the day, EFCC stated that 69 suspected students of OAU were arrested for fraudulent activities.
