"It is aspiring tyrants who say that 'civil liberties end when an attack on our safety begins.' Conversely, leaders who wish to preserve the rule of law find other ways to speak about real terrorist threats, and certainly do not invent them or deliberately make them worse." those are the words of a great American author Timothy Synder. let me to borrow some lines from a role model's column in the field, Mr lasisi olagunji is columnist with Nigeria tribunes, in one of his column titled "don't struggle when you are raped" it reads "A Cable News Network (CNN) journalist in a recent report posed as a willing victim of human trafficking to Europe. Editorial: Security of OAU students’ lives and properties at stake, a wake-up call to management, police.

[Picture used to illustrate robbery attack] One can’t feign ignorance of the recent threats to security of lives and properties in Ile-Ife environs, particularly in the student-dominated places, except one wants to be a hypocrite. Students and residents of these robbers’ den cannot sleep with their two eyes closed for the fear of being burgled or losing their lives to the attack. With the foregoing, the authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University, with 72% of her students living off-campus, seems to be unconcerned even after losing a student to a robbery attack few weeks ago. The fact that the school has lost more students to insecurity in 2018 than it has done in the last 4 years is worrisome and it should not be taken with a pinch of salt. Ranging from the death of one Mr. Omoboriowo at New Bukka to the murder of Mr. Babatope at Adam and Eve, a hostel facility outside campus. On several occasions and at different times, top officers of the university have promised that the

A cool evening, in my favorite black body con and sandals, Meghan Trainor's 'like I'm going to loose you' playing through my earphones, I was going to meet him. So here I am, 8:40pm, 18th July, 2018 on a bike to a stranger's hotel, scratch that, he's not a total stranger. I mean, I stalked on him on IG for a few days, maybe a month or two, I don't remember who followed who, we get talking, we've met once, more like a business meeting, now, this meeting, is all for fun and pleasure not exactly what you have in your head. I needed a break, a new environment, I needed to talk to a neutral somebody, I had had enough of the routine, there's this thing 'Deronmu said to me one time, you have to be 70%mentally and 30%physically balanced to be termed normal, I was way below 5%, have you ever had this nothing-is-working feeling?, yeah, that was it, different sad real life ads popping on my page at the same time, you could call me depressed I would

ASUU STRIKE: headway as FG reaches agreement with university lecturers.

The Nigerian government has reached an agreement with striking university lecturers, raising the possibility of ending the teachers’ prolonged industrial action. The national president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Biodun Ogunyemi, said the National Executive Committee of the union will review its decisions based on the new commitment by the federal government. He said the strike could only be called off or not after the NEC meeting. He did not say when the meeting will hold. The lecturers have been on strike since November 4 to demand improved funding of universities and implementation of previous agreements with the government. After a meeting Monday, the minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige, said an agreement had been reached. According to him, the accountant general and the ministry of finance have confirmed with evidence that N15.4 billion had been released to cover funding in public universities.
