Adeniran Stephen Tolulope  Amidst the heat of preparation for the 2021/2022 Rain Semester Examination, it was with good hope that the Great Ife Students’ Union election for the next session’s officials was conducted. Campaign loudly went on for a week before the election week. Candidates fared during the debates, and perhaps the election, whilst a single candidate emerged for each post contested. Though, only a candidate contested for the position of the Director of sport, which he won fearlessly. Lordfem, a student from the Faculty of Agriculture was declared as the President-elect of the Students’ Union by the Electoral Chairman of the Great Ife Students’ Union Electoral Committee, AYEBIELE Oluwajuedalo. He won with a total vote of 2796, leading his closest rival, Legbeti who has votes of 1121, with votes of 1675. Image
Omole Pamilerin Inioluwa  An illegal occupant in the OAU Female hostel which needs to be eradicated is not human but the numerous tiny mischievous creature who whickers with excitement whenever nightfall. Female hostels especially (Alumni Hostel and Akintola) give me several memories of rats and student activities.  Are student the real occupant of the hostel or does this place belongs to the rat? It seems those rats are the landlord of these halls, this is my way of making jest of myself and my roomie after every sleepless night, running helter and skelter from the fear of being jumped at by a rat while sleeping. One night in May, the temperature remains severely high, because the sun has been a long set during the day. Rat started their activities by walking and running comfortably in the room, I guess they thought we were asleep, Precious and I were still awake, and they all buzz out of their hiding place running vigorously, I was surprised at their confidence. Precious asked me if

Nigerian educational sector and its compounding mess

Image
Adeniran Stephen Tolulope  When it comes to being educated, though different ways have existed and still exist, one has been the most common way; the WESTERN EDUCATION, which has always been referred to as the best way of being educated. Western Education entails being taught in a school, apart from that, as some would say, it is the best way to succeed.   The current situation facing the whole education sector might be, in some cases, rendering the above statement an understatement. Whether it is the best legacy or the best way to success, it seems not to be correct at some point. Why? Recent activities of Nigerians have made it seems that there is an alternative to this way to succeed in life without being educated in Schools, most especially tertiary institutions. Many students now engage in some kind of business alongside their academics. In fact, many are motivated or intimidated to have the same mindsets. Some were pressurized when they find their friends wearing good clothes and
