ASUU punishes UNILORIN over prolonged academic crisis

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has directed its members nationwide to boycott academic and other activities at the University of Ilorin.

ASUU described the university’s ways of handling things as persistent acts of lawless, arbitrariness, violation of human and trade union rights and persecution of loyal members.

The union also said that the academic staff of the university will not be allowed to carry out any academic activity in any public university in Nigeria.

This was part of the resolutions reached at the end of its Awka National Executive Council meeting, a copy of which was made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Sunday by the Chairman, University of Ibadan Chapter of the union, Dr Deji Omole.

ASUU noted that despite efforts at resolving the crisis in the institution, the university management and its sponsored groups were fuelling the crisis while alleging that it forcefully deducted check-off dues without remitting it to the national body.

Yet another Academic Staff Union to go on a nationwide warning strike

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics are to commence a nationwide one-week warning strike on Monday.

The President of ASUP, Mr. Usman Dutse, said during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday that academic and administrative exercise would be suspended in all public polytechnics across the country between noon of January 30, 2017 and February 6, 2017.

The ASUP President also listed the non removal of the entry dichotomy between HND and degrees, poor funding of the polytechnics, victimization of union officials, and non release of check o…

10 tips for finding life balance in school by Randall S Hansen

1. Set Realistic Goals.
Finding balance probably starts with setting realistic goals for yourself. If you set goals that are too high, you'll end up wearing yourself out, feeling frustrated and disappointed in yourself for not achieving your goals. If you set your goals too low, you'll have too much time on your hands and feel empty when you achieve your goals. The goals you set should be a bit of stretch, but not so much that you can't achieve them. Consider setting goals for yourself -- not only for your academics, but for other aspects of campus life. And remember not to let others influence your goals.

2. Learn to Study Effectively.
Your education at college involves more than countless hours of studying, so learn how you best study and prepare for exams -- and then adjust your schedule accordingly. Spending too much time studying can actually lead to burn-out and produce a negative impact on your academic performance. Too little studying and/or cramming can also lead…

The impeachment saga: Oau kilonshele unveils hidden facts

*The impeachment saga: Oau kilonshele unveils hidden facts.*
Wednesday 18th of January 2017

*What we know*
The ASRC (Accounting students representative council) of the Nigeria University of Accounting Students Association OAU last week impeached their executive President in person of Jon Sunday Akpan based on allegations of 5000 fraud from the visit to Unibadan zoo in August 2016 as one of the treats to welcome freshers fully into the department. As gathered, on getting to the zoo, the visiting party headed by John Akpan was asked to pay 15,000 for entrance which was bargained and reduced to 10,000. Mr John Akpan as supported by the other executives found another pressing use for the 5000 excess instead of remitting it to the Budget and finance committee as the financial statement records 15,000 as the paid entrance fee into the zoo. Sold out, Mr John Akpan was impeached for lack of transparency and not fraud.

The Executive arm of the department, some students (as interviewed by Oa…

As acting VC sets to leave this month, OAU gets new Governing council.

Following the dissolution of the varsity's governing board in 2016 and the tenure of the acting VC Prof Elujoba expires in few days, the Federal government has appointed officials to form the new council, which is to last for four years as announced by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu.

As a reminder, the old governing council was dissolved for irregularities in the selection of Prof Salami Alabama as VC after the departure of Prof Tale Omole which caused the uprising by both SSANU and NASU on campus decrying this act which got the attention of the FG and the dissolution of the governing Council headed by Prof. Rowland Ndoma-Egba.

The new council will be headed by Dr Yemi Ogunbiyi, a former lecturer in the department of drama and literature in the university . The appointment also made provisions for an assisting board comprising of Adekunle Sanni, Felix Madubuike, Muhammed Bello and Inowei Akono.

2017 Jamb form price and breakdown

It should be noted that JAMB forms for previous years usually go on sale as from November. The delay in the Sale of 2017 JAMB Form is attributed to the change in JAMB leadership and determination by JAMB to limit middle men (cybercafes & business centres), and push down the cost of JAMB services, by introducing new payment methods.

It is being rumoured that the sales of 2017/2018 UTME form has began but there has been no official announcement of commencement by Jamb. Following a post by the admission board, the purchase of the form will commence soon.

The cost of the registration was also made known and the breakdown was stated.

2. CBT Centre Registration Fee - N700
3. JAMB Mandatory Textbook - N500 (The Last Days at Forcados High School, A. H. Mohammed)

Great ife students strive to survive as butteries are locked

*Great ife students strive to survive as butteries are locked*
*Wednesday, 4th of Jauary,2017*

Few hours ago, the butteries in halls of residence where students buy goods and basic commodities have been ordered by DSA under the leadership of Dr Mrs Akinola to be locked while students strive to survive.

A new year, a new dawn, a new act by the DSA. Waking up this morning, Great Ife students in halls of residence were welcomed with a new directive from the Division of Students Affairs for all butteries to go on a lockdown after these butteries' owners have paid 50,000 each to buy "acceptance form" before the birth of January 2017, between December 29th and 31st to be specific.

On a reminder note, the Division of Students Affairs OAU through the office of the security unit had informed students of closure of commercial activities in halls of residence before the end of last semester which would take effect by this time as a tactic against alleged crimes inspired by the pre…
