THE MISGUIDED DEMOCRACY

"The strongest democracies flourish from frequent and lively debate , but they endure when people of every background and belief find a way to set aside smaller differences in service of a greater purpose." BARACK OBAMA,    God bless Nigeria, a country whose independence was attained 57 years ago. Today, 29th of May, marks another anniversary of the existence of Nigeria as a democratic state.    Abraham Lincoln's definition of democracy which answers the questions of who and to whom the leadership of the government is and for, is still applicable to our country.    However the purpose of determining the leadership through the choice of the followers is missing. Though we still have a democratic state but it is now being built on the foundation of tribalism, prejudices and religious segregation. Hence, these are the factors aiding the growth of corruption, incompetence of leaders, embezzlement at all levels, etc.    The concept of democracy gives room for proper r

BLOOD SUCKING VAMPIRES

Image
The asperous invasion of the Draculas aka the *bed bugs* seem to be on the increase on oau campus, as bed bugs are well known as creepy biting insects, which can be largely found in rooms and hostels on this formidable campus.Bed bugs require blood in order to reproduce and complete their life cycle. The effect of bed bugs bites vary among people, but they eventually produce red welts that itch.             The bites themselves are not painful and typically are not felt. However, frequent feeding can disrupt people's sleep and make them irritable, and seeing bites may cause emotional distress in some people. Heavy rates of feeding can result in significant blood loss and eventually lead to anemia, most students don't seem to be aware of this fact as some act ''unperturbed'' at the sight. Bed bugs typically are active at night and hide during the daytime.           Being very flat, they are able to find a wide variety of places in which to hide. Typical hid

Oau students clamour for fumigation of bedbugs smitten halls

Image
Sequel to the inability of the school management to fumigate the halls of residence that have been infested with bedbugs, the students have begun to share broadcasts as a clamour for the fumigation that hasn't been done using the social media.      The school management through the Division of Students' Affairs (DSA) , according to the letter written by the Students' Union executives, gave an excuse to justify the delay of the fumigation, saying " the halls have not been fumigated because of the presence of students writing projects, SWEP students, SIWES students and those undergoing their teaching - practice exercise. We told all the males to move to ETF hall of residence and females to Alumni hall of residence but they didn't respond. "      In response to the management's excuse, the Students' Union has resolved that all hostels must be fumigated before the resumption of returning students. Also, students have expressed their grievances

"Wasteful spending", Emerald slams Dr Ibk's transportation Scheme.

Less than 48 hours ago, the Vice President of the Students Union shared with the Great students of Obafemi Awolowo University her reservation concerning Dr Ibk, SU President's transportation Scheme in a long epistle. In her long revealing statement which is framed on a conscience-smitten note, Emerald slams Dr Ibk's scheme which he revealed in an interview with ACJ President as "Wasteful spending and ill thought". She made a pellucid objection to this scheme by stating how it lacks effectiveness in the long-run. With her release, some would say there is fire in the building as this shows that both the President of the Students' Union and Vice President are having conflict of interest. During our course of investigation, the agency found out that some members of the CEC are in support of the aforementioned scheme (which proposes to get four buses for N12m to ease transportation) while some are indifferent. The questions now are : Is the President really p
