Cult Attack: OUI Management Claims Ignorance as Police Rearrests Students

Peter Oyebanji

The Moore police division has rearrested the suspected cultists that invaded Obafemi Awolowo University campus on Friday, May 3.

It should be recalled that this news outfit reported how some of the suspects were confirmed to be students of Oduduwa University, a neighbouring university of OAU in Ile-Ife.

Recall that they were first arrested after they attacked students during a musical performance by Zlatan Ibile. The invasion led to severe injuries and has also created tension within the university community.

OAU KILONSHELE gathered that the suspects were granted bail on Monday by one of their lecturers.

However, the suspects have been rearrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigative Department, Osogbo.

The re-arrest came after the school security team and the students' union action commitee in a joint effort requested that the suspects should be arrested.

This was confirmed by the Ife Area Commander, Mr. Funsho Adegboye when contacted by our correspondent.

"They have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigative Department(CID), Osogbo," he reiterated.

Meanwhile, the students union action commitee tasked the school management with making sure that the suspected cultists do not go unpunished.

"The committee is using this medium to demand that the university management should make sure that the criminals do not go unpunished," they noted in the release.

Speaking with this news outfit on Thursday, the Chief Security Officer of OUI preferred to be addressed as Bayo Onigiobi, claimed ignorance of the whole story.

"I have not heard anything about that. We'll confirm and get back to you," He said.
