OAU Management Responds to Students' Plight After Three Days of Water Scarcity.

OAU KILONSHELE

The Division of Students' Affairs of Obafemi Awolowo University has spoken on the cause of water scarcity in the hostels.

This news outfit gathered that water has not been supplied to Awolowo hall,  Fajuyi hall, Alumni hall and Moremi hall since the past three days.

Students have been seen going as far as the banking area of the university to source water for bathing and cooking.

However, in a telephone interview with the Vice Dean of DSA, Dr. Oluwatosin, on Sunday, it was made known that the scarcity is as a result of the faulty pipe along road one.

"They should be able to bear with us. Is it every time they should be complaining? I'm sure some of them must have been passing through road one and they might have seen them where they're repairing the pipe.

When quizzed about the boreholes dug in some hostels which have not been functional, he said;

 "The borehole issue, I don't think those people did a thorough job there."

"The borehole has not been pumping water and we've complained to the people that bid the contract and I heard it was directly from the federal government. Only the one at Akintola is working perfectly and the contractors has been contacted. I want to assure you that the University has no hand in the award of the contract; it's all the way from Abuja."

Also, the Dean of the division, Professor Isiaka Aransi, in a text message, assured that water will be restored in the meantime.

"I spoke with the Director, Division of Works and Maintenance Services on the issue of water scarcity. The problem is connected with a burst pipe along Road One of the University."

The Engineers are working round the clock to ensure that water supply is restored urgently," the message read.

Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, the search for water continues as residents of the affected hostels move about with buckets and kegs.
