OAU: Management Assures Students Over Security Issues

Peter Oyebanji

Management of Obafemi Awolowo University in a conversation with OAU Kilonshele, has assured the students regarding the security issues in the university community. The school PRO, Abiodun Olanrenwaju,  in a conversation with our correspondent, made it known that the school is actively working as regards the security issue.
It should be recalled that the institution was attacked by the "Alora confraternity" during a musical show which featured popular artiste, Zlatan Ibile. Although, most of the people that led the attack have been arrested, there is still a scare within the university community due to a widely broadcasted release under the pseudonym "Oju (eyes)." The report which was met with different reactions stated that the school will be stormed on June 1st for vengeance for the way the cult members were treated.

However, the institution's PRO told OAU Kilonshele that the school is on top of the situation. Mr. Olanrenwaju when asked if the recent security beef up on campus is related to the threat, he said, "the threat of the cultists is a security issue. The only thing I can tell you is that the university is on top of the situation but we can not discuss the details of our security plan with the press cos it wil give this people the possibility of rescheduling their plan."

"Be rest assured that the university and the security agencies are on top of the situation. What they're planning, how they're planing, I can't tell you. But I can tell you that by the grace of God, everything will be okay for us," he continued.

Since Friday, 17th of May, there has been a different approach to security in the university. Means of identifications have now been prioritised at the school gate and halls of residence.
