The event was publicised and the ticket was sold for 300 naira. Many students purchased theirs and for their friends too.

A student of the Faculty of Law, Koye-ladele Mofehintoluwa, posted on his Facebook wall, stating the names of his friends that will get the tickets for free. Courtesy of his own kindness.

Another student, Kaosarat Bello, a part 2 student, noted that she was more than prepared for the concert only for her to get the news of the cancellation.

"I've paid for my ticket likewise my friends. It was so sad that the concert was cancelled." She told OAU KILONSHELE.

In the evening of Friday, July 6, students of Obafemi Awolowo University anticipated the concert of the 'Ara' crooner, Olawale Ashimi, popularly known as Brymo.

The excuse given by the organizers, the executives of the Akintola hall of residence, emphasized that the concert was cancelled because of the tests to be written by students the following day.

The  executives of the Akintola hall of residence, as stated in an article, accused Brymo of a breach of agreement over his performance that was fixed for the first week of July.

In the widely circulated article, it was noted that, Brymo’s group was unprofessional by saying they couldn’t perform because one of their band members had travelled after receiving part-payment.

The Agreement and the breach.

The executives of Akintola hall contacted Brymo’s management for the performance of Brymo in Obafemi Awolowo University about Three months ago.

The contract was secured after a negotiation, which led to Brymo’s management slashing price from  Five Million Naira (5,000,000) to Five Hundred Thousand Naira (500,000).

According to Brymo's manager, Lanre Lawal, the cut in price was  as a result of the relationship between the Chairperson of Akintola Hall and the Brymo's group.

"The agreement was that seventy percent (70%) has to be paid before Brymo leaves for Ile-Ife."

However, on the night before the day of the show, the excos found out that there will be a lot of tests on the next day of the show, which was on Saturday. As the show was meant to take place on the night of Friday till the Morning of Saturday.

On the 5th of July, a day before the show, OAU KILONSHELE learnt that Akintola excos had only paid Two hundred thousand naira (200,000), which negates the initial agreement.

Akintola’s Chairperson, Karimot Odebode alleged that they asked Brymo’s management for postponement because of tests but later retracted it when they got a boost in sponsorship and hoped that students will attend en masse.

“We had to postpone the show because of tests, the tests were major courses. When we called Brymo’s manager, we told him we couldn’t guarantee the population and asked for postponement."

"People were calling when they heard that it had been postponed, the volunteers told me that we could still pull through. Then we called back the morning of the show and told them to start coming that people still want the event to take place."

"The manager called us back and said one of their band members is on his way to Port Harcourt. That was where they defaulted." She said.

Meanwhile,  OAU KILONSHELE investigations showed that the reasons for the cancellation of the show as stated by the chairperson, Karimot, wasn’t the true reasons for the cancellation of the show.

In an interview with the Financial Secretary of the hall, Gift Nmerole, She said;

“The manager asked for seventy percent (70%), as at the night before the day Brymo was to come, we have only paid two hundred thousand Naira. We called a meeting to see if we could do some things to get the money, we decided that may be if we sell tickets, we would get the money."

" We started publicity around the school but then we found out that the students were having tests and it will be very difficult. We told Brymo’s manager that we couldn’t come up with seventy percent (70%).”

“when we couldn’t meet up with the seventy percent (70%), we didn’t tell them about the test because it will be needless. If I were the one too, I will be less concerned about why you couldn’t meet up, we had to ask for postponement.”

Brymo’s manager, Mr. Lanre Lawal when asked about what led to the cancellation made it known that the inability of the executives to meet up with the payment and the unavailability of enough accommodation facilities were the reasons.

“They didn’t meet up with the money they were supposed to pay, they only paid N200, 000 out of N500, 000. Secondly, they didn’t book enough rooms, only two rooms were booked for fourteen (14) people instead of minimum of seven (7).”

No contract with NUMA- Brymo's manager says

On Saturday, 11th of August, Nigerian Universities Merit Awards (NUMA) organised an award to reward Nigerian students that have worked tirelessly in their contributions across all campuses in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, in the  article released by one of the Brymo Live in Ife’s volunteers, NUMA was alleged to have signed a contract with Brymo's group for a performance after he failed to attend the publicized concert.

The manager, Mr Lawal, when asked about the allegations,

Said “I don’t know the organizer, he only called us to pick up an award. We don’t have a contract with NUMA.”

However, OAU KILONSHELE confirmed that Brymo came to Ife to pick up an award presented to him by NUMA, he didn’t stage any performance.

"Money meant for 'common room' maintenance, spent on concert"- Akintola babes cry out

The executives of the Akintola Hall of Residence have lamented the non-refundable 200,000 naira paid to Brymo's group.

The Financial Secretary, Miss Nmerole, made it known that a part of the money was meant for fixing their common room while other parts were borrowed.

Lanre Lawal, Brymo’s manager has made it known that they will not be refunding any money as they did everything they were supposed to do from their part.

“We cancelled the show the morning it was meant to take place when they didn’t fulfil their contractual obligation, we tweeted the cancelation in the morning. They were not ready, they were not organised. The money isn’t refundable, the rehearsal we did, who is going to be responsible for it?” he said.

Mr. Lanre Lawal however alleged Miss Nmerole of issuing threats.

"I didn't threaten nobody, the only message I sent was that he should please refund the money, the money belongs to some set of people." Miss Nmerole denied the allegations.
