In the dark hours of Thursday, a group of unidentified men attacked and killed a young man at the car park of New Bukka of Obafemi Awolowo University campus, a place set aside for commercial activities with different restaurants and bars. Afterwards, they escaped in an Highlander jeep.

The incident, which took place about 10pm, led to the death of one Mr. Adewumi, who resides in Ile-ife and whose Mum works as a cleaner in the University community. OAU KILONSHELE was able to gather that Adewumi was a young man in his late twenties and he was a frequent visitor of the area. As at the time our correspondent got to the scene there was blood on the ground alongside the food meant for the deceased.

According to eye witness accounts; the group had a fight with Adewumi at the car park which resulted to one of them using a diabolical ring to hit him and he was stabbed on the neck.

" I was shocked like it was like a film trick seeing those guys kill the man. One of them, who wore a white jersey, struck him with a ring in his hands and later stabbed him on the neck." one of the staff a restaurant narrated.

"I tried settling the fight but I am the only one watching over the place. As I was separating them from beating themselves, I was being pushed here and there. If probably we were two watch men on duty, they wouldn't have escaped because as one is settling the fight the other will be locking the gates." the night guard explained.

"Dewumi is a gentleman who comes here frequently and there is nothing that should have warranted his killing. Had it been that the security came in good time and he was rushed to the Clinic immediately, he would not have died  and the culprits would have been apprehended. By the time an arrangement was made to rescue the poor man, he had already lost so much blood. " the friend of the deceased, who sought anonymity,  stated.

He added that the miscreants came out of one of the bar houses called 'Mai Place' and the Hype man of the bar, Okolie Victor popularly called Chawlee, a student of the university, can't claim ignorant of the identity of the culprits.

"They came out of MAI PLACE, the bar tender and the hype man, which is Chawlee can not say they don't know those guys because they came out of their place. Every trouble caused in New Bukka has always been from that place." he said.

However, Mr. Okolie responded to to the allegations against him. He made it known that he was just doing his own job and does not have personal interaction with the customers.
" I don't know and they are not students. Probably they had issues with payment of bills. It was our bar tender who followed them. I don't know anything. I do my job with no personal relationship between me and the customers." he said defiantly.

The watch man asserted that asides the shortage of night guards, the security of the place is not that efficient because of lack of needed gate locks.

"like I have once experienced, the padlocks here can be broken through easily. We've complained several times but the management would not answer."

Meanwhile, all efforts to reach the Chief Security Officer of the school proved abortive as he has not been picking calls and replying our messages. The phone of the Public Relations Officer has been switched off also.
