ALLEGED 'STUDENTS' UNION SPONSORED HOODLUMS' ATTACK STUDENTS AT SUB.

ALLEGED 'STUDENTS' UNION SPONSORED HOODLUMS' ATTACK STUDENTS AT SUB.

      Some students of Obafemi Awolowo University were brutally beaten while injuries were inflicted on some in the Students' Union building (SUB) of the university.

      During a parliamentary sitting, which took place at the SUB Television room on November 1, members of the gallery were restrained from gaining access to the venue of the sitting and this led to the merciless beating of a former student, Obafemi Sodunola also called 'Trotsky' and some other students by identified members of the Students' Union security committee.

"After I and some other comrades entered into the SUB TV room, the next person behind me was beaten by members of the security committee. Comrade Juwon left here with bloodshot eyes." Omole Ibukun, one of the suspended students said.

      In a bid to moderate the case of the beating in the security office, some individuals in cutlasses, whips and charms stormed the building, beat students and eventually inflicted cut on one of the former students, who came to observe the parliamentary sitting like Sanyaolu Juwon and Ibirogba Samuel - popularly known as Sammie. These alleged cultists escaped in the Students' Union bus.

     In an eye witness account, Komolafe Tolulope, an executive member of the faculty of arts, said;
    " I was upstairs charging my phone and later on joined the Students, who were agitating for the open moderation of the initial beating of the students. When I came out, I saw someone with a cutlass using it against the others. Some of these unknown hoodlums, who were with whips started beating students . In the heat of the attack, students revolted and these hoodlums left in the Students' Union bus that was driven by the SU driver. At that point, where they escaped, we met the SU president Oyekan Edward Ibukun (IBK) and an honourable from Pharmacy, also known as 'chief belly'."

      Another Honourable from the faculty of law whose name was withdrawn for security reasons, testified to the cutlass cut and made it known that the president was being dragged to Awolowo Hall of residence for open moderation but he refused.

"He refused to follow the students to Awolowo and he pretended to have fainted. We offered to take him to the university health centre but he did not stand up." Honourable from Law opined.

     Afterwards, the university security bus took the President away from the scene. In a verified phone conversation, the President denied the allegations that those hoodlums were brought by him.
     "I was attacked by students, how do you expect an attacked person be responsible for the attack of students? " he said.

  Meanwhile, in a release by the Chief Security Officer of the institution, Babatunde Oyatokun , students were told to debunk the rumour of the cultists' attack and claimed that it was a fight initiated by the left group.

   However, An honourable in the Students' Representative Council (SRC), who sought anonymity for the fear of being suspended explained to OAU KILONSHELE that the emergency parliamentary was borne out of the plans of the  President to get his budget passed before the leadership of the parliament returns from Abuja.

 "The speaker and the clerk alongside some members of the SRC are on a trip to the house of assembly in Abuja. The house is on recess and the recess will be called off on the 4th of November. The President wants to make use of the limited time available before then to be able to unilaterally with the connivance of the Hall executives and the available members of SRC pass his budget without thorough ratification." the anonymous honourable stated.
