TESA ELECTION: Part 2 Computer Science Students Required to Vote Before Receiving Manuals
Controversy has arisen during the ongoing Technology and Engineering Students' Association (TESA) elections at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), particularly within the Computer Science and Engineering department. It was observed from the polling unit that a mandatory requirement was imposed on Part 2 students by their Part Adviser.
According to a Part 2 student, each Part 2 student in Computer Science and Engineering is allegedly obligated to cast their vote before being permitted to collect the CSC 201 manual, a resource crucial for their academic pursuits. The manual, for which students have paid, has become a point of contention as it is seemingly tied to their participation in the ongoing TESA elections.
One student was overheard expressing frustration while conversing with a peer, questioning the necessity of compulsory voting in exchange for the manual. The student voiced concerns about the implications of such a mandate on the integrity of the election process.
In an attempt to shed light on the situation, a Part 2 student explained that the CSC 201 tutorial, scheduled for the same day, relies on the distribution of the manual. The Part Adviser reportedly informed them that casting their votes is a prerequisite for eligibility to receive the tutorial manual.
