In the late hours of Friday evening, when many packed their luggage and got set to travel, the IFUMSA treated the OAU Community to a movie night at the HSLT A premises.
The evening was a grand one as both students and non-students of the association gathered together in the dimly lit lecture theatre to fun-fully wrap up the academic activities of the year with a moment of pleasure, right before embarking on the Yuletide break of the Harmattan semester.
Present at the occasion was the day two one-day president of the student union, Amarachi Nwnakwo, adding glamor to the evening, despite receiving no formal recognition. She didn't stay for long though, as she left after greeting some members of the audience and buying popcorn just outside the venue.
The evening started with a Karaoke with the crowd chorusing several popular songs like ‘Lonely at the Top’, ‘Perfect ‘ by Ed Sheeran, ‘Shape of You', and ‘Memories’.Thereafter, the two movies went on in quick succession. The first movie with a Christmas theme was titled ‘Violent Night’, and the second with a horror theme was titled ‘The Nun 2’.
It was not all sightseeing for the crowd though. There were several vendors in and out of the premises including ChocHub selling chocolate, Nature’s Delight selling Smoothies, and Popmayor selling Popcorn.
Speaking with the IFUMSA Director of Sports, Adeleke Stephen, Director of Sports, he said he had a great and thrilling experience at the show. He said, “The experience was great. Violent Night was such an interesting movie...a good way to end an exam-filled year. Although I expected a Christmas movie...violent night was a pure blend of Christmas and Violence. What I expected wasn't what I got...but what I got was worth it”
Gbeminiyi, a medical student, applauded the choice of the movie. He said, “It was interesting, it was a nice movie for Christmas, and for our age. It wasn't childish. I enjoyed the movie.”
Deborah, a medical student, didn't like that the movie started late though, and decried how the movie shifted Christmas focus from Christ to Santa Claus. She stated “They started a little bit late because we kept on doing this and that... merry, merry... jingle, jingle...and we had to do a lot of things before they started showing the movie. But the movie was perfect...beautifully bloody."
Deborah further added, “And then to the conspiracy theory, the movie was a perfect way to stop people from talking about Christ, while giving them something else to talk about, that is Santa Clauss.”
