OAU Kilonshele Emerges First Runner-Up in ACJOAU Oratory Contest

OAU Kilonshele News Agency emerged as the first runner-up at the second Inter-News Agencies Oratory Contest, organized by the Association of Campus Journalists, Obafemi Awolowo University (ACJOAU), on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at the First Bank Lecture Theatre.

The contest started at 11 a.m. and featured participants from seven campus news agencies: OAUPeeps, OAU Kilonshele, InFocus, Great Ife Network, The Lens, ASPOB, and NCB. Each speaker addressed the topic, “The Influence of Journalism on Political Polarization.”

Ifeoluwa Lambe represented OAU Kilonshele. His strong and clear presentation earned him second place. His presentation, along with others, addressed how journalism affects political discussions.

The ACJOAU Public Relations Officer served as the Master of Ceremony. Other association executives were also present.

In his opening remarks, ACJOAU President Olabode Oluwafemi said the contest started under the previous leadership in 2024. It now serves as a lead-up to the annual International Campus Journalism Conference (ICJC). This year’s ICJC will be held on Saturday, May 3, with the theme “Media for Development: The Media as a Tool for Innovative Drive and Socio-Political Economic Transformation.” He invited all participants and guests to attend.

OAUPeeps, represented by Goodness Oluwasusi, emerged as the winner. Joy Oludele of Icons News Agency emerged as the second runner-up. All three winners received certificates of excellence.

The judges, Mr. Samson Akintokun and Miss Khadeejah Sunmola, gave feedback to the contestants. Alli, a spoken word poet, praised the students’ courage and advised them to keep practicing. Akintokun, a voice-over artist and media professional, encouraged the students to stay committed, saying winning does not mean the end, and losing does not mean failure.

President Oluwafemi ended the event by congratulating all contestants and promised that ACJOAU will continue to hold the oratory contest annually to promote collaboration, expression, and excellence among campus journalists. to help students grow in journalism.
