GreatIfeDecides’24: Students Elects New Hall Executive Councils for Halls of Residence

Saturday, June 22nd, 2024, marked the day for the highly anticipated Hall Executive Council (HEC) elections at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. The Electoral Commission, led by Chairman Taofeek Ogunperi (TAO), ensured a smooth and orderly process across the eight halls of residence.

Fajuyi Hall:
The election at Fajuyi Hall commenced late, with electoral commissioners arriving around 10:00 AM. Initial delays were caused by arguments between agents and commissioners regarding accreditation parameters. Notably, Odunayo Emmanuel Adio (Ifihan), a chairmanship contestant, expressed dissatisfaction that his political name was absent from the ballot paper.

Ballot Paper Analysis:
Total Ballot Papers: 280
Unused Ballot Papers: 48
Total Votes Cast: 232

The election saw a relatively low turnout, with agents actively wooing voters. Voting concluded at 3:00 PM, an hour later than initially planned. Vote counting began immediately after.
The Dean of Student Affairs visited during vote counting to ensure smooth proceedings.

- Chairman: Odunayo Emmanuel Adio (Ifihan) - 177 votes, Oyetola Oluwatomisin (Asiwaju Pedro) - 44 votes, Void - 11
- General Secretary: Abdulsalam Abdullahi Olatomiwa (Abdol) - 170 votes, Williams Kayode Oluwarotimi (Kaykay) - 52 votes, Void - 10
- Financial Secretary: Opeyemi Michael Awoniyi (Op Myke) - 200 votes, Void - 32
- Sports Secretary: Akinola John Oluwasegun (SOPO) - 194 votes, Void - 38
- Social Secretary: Afolabi Olajuwon Precious (Sanchez) - 203 votes, Void - 29

Alumni Hall:
Voting at Alumni Hall began late morning, with the electoral commissioner arriving around 10:00 AM. The process included educating agents and contestants on election principles. Agents were allowed to vote first to resume their duties. Notably, two physically challenged occupants were assisted in casting their votes.

Ballot Paper Analysis:
Total Ballot Papers: 410
Unused Ballot Papers: 148
Total Votes Cast: 262
Void Ballots: 1 (not placed in the ballot box)

Voting ended around 3:15 PM, followed by vote counting. The election saw visits from TAO (Electoral Commission Chairman) and Prof. J. A. Odedire (Dean of Student Affairs).

- Financial Secretary: Olafimihan Aisha Adeola (Ishaa) - 147 votes, Ajayi Glory Opeyemi (Pems) - 93 votes, Void - 22
- Sports Secretary: Adedeji Morolayo Precious (Prestige) - 223 votes, Void - 39
- Social Secretary: Richards Favour Mokunfope (Ginger) - 119 votes, Oreoluwa Oyekanmi Esther (Mimi) - 110 votes, Void - 33

Mozambique Hall:
Mozambique Hall faced significant delays due to issues accessing the list of legal occupants. This caused frustration among voters, with many waiting for hours. The Dean of Student Affairs intervened to help resolve the situation. Voting finally began in the afternoon and continued until late evening.

Unused Ballot Papers: 56
Total Votes Cast: 654

There was a brief uproar during vote counting when Arole attempted to speak with an electoral commissioner, necessitating the involvement of an external electoral commissioner to aid the counting process.

Moremi Hall:
Voting at Moremi Hall proceeded relatively smoothly. Notable voters included Salvation (erstwhile Students' Union Vice President) and Yosola (current Vice President of the Great Ife Students' Union). The electoral commissioners had to count additional ballot papers multiple times as they were exhausted.

Total Votes Cast: 406

Voting ended at 3:37 PM, with the Chairman of the Great Ife Students' Union Electoral Commission, Tao, visiting to assess the process.

ETF Hall:
At ETF Hall, an argument erupted between the Electoral Commissioner and Azeez (AZ), briefly pausing the voting process. The commissioner subsequently declared that no other agents were allowed inside. Despite this, voting continued relatively smoothly.

Awolowo Hall's election faced initial challenges with ballot papers, requiring manual corrections to include candidates' political names. The outgoing chairman, Seye, complained about the electoral commission's and security agent's competence in monitoring the election.

Voting ended around 3:12 PM, with the last voter casting their vote just before closure.

Angola Hall:
Angola Hall's election started late, with voting commencing around 11:00 AM. There was a mix-up in the pictures of candidates Bakare Victor and Quadri Victor, which was resolved by writing out names and using passports for identification.

Unused Ballot Papers: 615
Total Votes Cast: 426

The Dean of Student Affairs, Professor John Odedire, visited during the voting process. Voting concluded at 5:03 PM.

Akintola Hall:

Akintola Hall's election proceeded without major incidents. There was a brief pause when agents wanted the chairperson to leave the side of the electoral commissioners, but this was quickly resolved.

Total Votes Cast: 299

Voting was extended till 3:00 PM to accommodate more voters.

OAU RELEASES FINAL LIST FOR 2017/2018 ADMISSIONS.

Friday, 12th January, 2018. By Olufemi Alfred .O.     In lieu of a recent publication by OAU KILONSHELE about the release of admissions list despite the strike, it has been gathered that Obafemi Awolowo University has submitted the final lists of admitted candidates to the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) on the 10th of January.     However, JAMB has began the uploading of the names on the Caps  section of the website as about 20 students have been confirmed by OAU KILONSHELE  to have been admitted      All candidates (Direct Entry and JAMB applicants)  , awaiting their names should log on to the JAMB website and check if they have been admitted.

OAU ADMISSIONS MERIT LIST UPLOADED ON JAMB WEBSITE.

      Few days ago, OAU KILONSHELE posted the release of Obafemi Awolowo University merit list for 2017/2018 admissions, it has been confirmed that some of the aspirants have seen their names on  JAMB's website.       Admission status can be viewed on the CAPS section of the website.           Below are the step by step procedures to access JAMB CAPS 1. Visit jamb.org.ng/efacility  preferably using a PC or chrome browser on mobile. 2. Login with the credentials( email and password) you created your jamb account with. 3. After successfully logging in, click on the options button ( the button with 3 dash) at the top of the page. 4. You'll see CAPS under the tag 'Admissions'. Click on it and you'll be taken to the CAPS page. 5. If the page only shows 'welcome', do not be discouraged. Just click on options on your mobile's browser and change the view of the page to 'desktop view'. This is why it's preferable to use a PC. 6.
