Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, on Tuesday October 3rd, have hit the University campus gate to stage a protest over the recent hike in school fees and demanding for a 50% reduction in the new charges.

As seen, the students shut the main gate of the University, as no one was able to enter the University vicinity with their vehicles. Students, staff, other stakeholders of the University were seen stranded at the campus gate this morning. It should be noted that the protest was called after the congress held by the Students' Union at the TV Room, Ken Saro Wiwa Students' Union Building, on Monday October 2nd.

The students, at the campus gate demand a 50% reduction in the original proposed and also the installment payment which was promised by the Vice Chancellor of the University.

While answering to the demands of the students on Installment Payment, the Director of ICT, Kanmi Adewara representing the Vice-Chancellor was at the protest ground, he said the ICT centre of the school has a low number of staff at the moment due to the current ‘Japa’ wave, as this has caused the process of Post UTME examination to be slow, therefore leading to a slow process of activating the installment payment on the portal. He assured the students that the activation of Installment payment will be made before the end of the day.

Students protesting were seen carrying placards inscribed on them, were Let the Poor Breathe #FeeMustFall, You paid 9k, You want Students to pay 90k, amongst others.
