WAUG'23: APC Governorship Aspirant Pledges To Renovate OAU Sports Complex
A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressive Congress APC in Ekiti State, Otunba Ademola Popoola has assured the Obafemi Awolowo University Management and Students that his team is ready to finance, equip and renovate some of the Buildings in the University Sports Complex.
Otunba Ademola, who is an Alumnus of the University, stated this on Thursday 26th October, while on his Inspection visit to the University Sports Complex ahead of the West Africa University Games (WAUG) that would take place in the University Sports Complex. He therefore affirmed that the project will start as soon as possible before the event takes place.
While speaking on the streetlights at some of the Courts at the Sports Complex, he assured the management of the school that the streetlights would be fixed by a company known as Coleman, which is known as a cable company. He said this after he was told that the streetlights developed faults as a result of cable issues. He also promised to make a 16-seater bus available.
Notable places visited were the table tennis, basketball, and lawn tennis courts.
Meanwhile, earlier in his speech, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Simeon Adebayo Bamire noted that the WAUG event would take place between 15th and 22nd December 2023. Professor Bamire also assured the students of Obafemi Awolowo University that the students would enjoy the University in terms of its Educational Facilities, and its Recreational Facilities.
Meanwhile, according to an eyewitness, the Vice Chancellor and other members of the University's governing Council earlier on Tuesday 24th October, visited the main building of the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education for an inspection of the leaking roofs of the building.
