Your Grammar Teacher: The Wrong Use of Devout

Rules of a language need to be learnt for effective usage of that particular language


If we intend to use devout as an adjective before a word(noun), do we say "devoted Muslim/Christian or we say devout Muslim/Christian."


The correct usage of 'devout' as an adjective that modifies a noun is devout Muslim/Christian


Devout : This means believing  strongly in a particular religion and obeying its laws and practices. E.g.

i. A devout Catholic
ii. A devout member of Muslim students society of Nigeria
iii. They have a devout Muslim in their family.


"Devout" can also be used as a devout hope or wish  which means you feel very strongly about something. E.g

It's my devout hope that we travel together in peace.


The adverbial form of 'devout' is  devoutly which means very strongly. E.g.

1. She devoutly hoped he was telling the truth.
2. A devoutly disciplined religion.


We need to be grammatically inclined

OAU RELEASES FINAL LIST FOR 2017/2018 ADMISSIONS.

Friday, 12th January, 2018. By Olufemi Alfred .O.     In lieu of a recent publication by OAU KILONSHELE about the release of admissions list despite the strike, it has been gathered that Obafemi Awolowo University has submitted the final lists of admitted candidates to the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) on the 10th of January.     However, JAMB has began the uploading of the names on the Caps  section of the website as about 20 students have been confirmed by OAU KILONSHELE  to have been admitted      All candidates (Direct Entry and JAMB applicants)  , awaiting their names should log on to the JAMB website and check if they have been admitted.

OAU ADMISSIONS MERIT LIST UPLOADED ON JAMB WEBSITE.

      Few days ago, OAU KILONSHELE posted the release of Obafemi Awolowo University merit list for 2017/2018 admissions, it has been confirmed that some of the aspirants have seen their names on  JAMB's website.       Admission status can be viewed on the CAPS section of the website.           Below are the step by step procedures to access JAMB CAPS 1. Visit jamb.org.ng/efacility  preferably using a PC or chrome browser on mobile. 2. Login with the credentials( email and password) you created your jamb account with. 3. After successfully logging in, click on the options button ( the button with 3 dash) at the top of the page. 4. You'll see CAPS under the tag 'Admissions'. Click on it and you'll be taken to the CAPS page. 5. If the page only shows 'welcome', do not be discouraged. Just click on options on your mobile's browser and change the view of the page to 'desktop view'. This is why it's preferable to use a PC. 6.
