Your Grammar Teacher: Is there a word like "Possible Best?"

Habeeb Waliyu

Do we do our "possible best" to achieve something? E.g. Do your possible best to pass the exam.

It's wrong to use possible best but it's correct to use best.

E.g.

Do your best to pass the exam.

Possible: This means:

i. Something that can be done or achieved. E.g. It's possible to get there before 9pm

ii. Something that might exist or happen but not certain. E.g. The possible side effect of the drug.

iii. Something reasonable or acceptable at a particular situation. E.g. it requires several possible explanations.

Best: This means the most excellent quality of something. E.g. Maradona was one of the best football players of his generation.

It can also mean most suitable or appropriate way of doing things. E.g. What is the best way to cook fried rice?

It should be noted that there is a word like "best possible" which means to emphasize that something is the best of its type. E.g. I want to give the kids the best possible education.

We need to be grammatically inclined
