Short Story: A Bed of thorns laced with roses.

Adunni, a girl of 19 with dreams and aspirations all mapped out in her head- marriage at 19, a baby boy at 21 and a complete family of 5 at thirty.

It was a very bright and beautiful morning, with birds chirping in her dreams, she smiled as she woke up knowing it was special day for her- May 27th- her 20th birthday and she's about to get married to the man of her dreams- A landlord and A bonafide owner of a Peugeot 504.

Mother had talked to her the previous night about "a married life" she shrugged her off, thinking she's got it all mapped out and she is in control. Well, at that moment she was.

She had her perfect traditional marriage with the whole town in attendance. Few days after, her husband went back to thank her parents with a full keg of palm wine, a red handkerchief and a packet of matches. They were all excited and proud of their baby Adunni and everybody kept on talking about her for months.

Luckily for her, at age of 34 she gave birth to all 5 kids- all girls. Torn from the top to the bottom, she began to question, Are these children? Love diminished drastically from the husband because of the girls.

Now she is at crossed roads, is she going to have to unlearn all the "shit" she's always known- the female child can never be as "good" as the male child or bring up all 5 girls with love and care(she doesn't even have to offer) with a figure head father while deep down she feels like a failure and all her fairy tale dreams shattered over 5 girls ???!
