Matriculation: OAU Reaffirms Strict Stance Against Cultism And Exam Malpractice

The Obafemi Awolowo University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Simeon Bamire, on Thursday 11th of January, reaffirmed the institution’s zero tolerance for cultism and exam malpractice.

The University Vice-Chancellor represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Bola Babalola, disclosed this during the matriculation ceremony for the 2022/2023 academic session new intakes held at the University’s Oduduwa Hall Amphitheater.

Bamire stated that since the University’s establishment, it has consistently produced skilled professionals to fulfil national and international employment requirements while noting that the University commonly known as ‘Great Ife’ has served as a hub of knowledge and intellectual excellence for many decades.

He urged the newly matriculated students to strive for excellence by enhancing, refining, and understanding their identities, enabling them to view the world from enlightened perspectives also emphasized the importance of utilizing every minute wisely during their time at the University.

The Vice-Chancellor commended them for being selected out of over 40,000 candidates who participated in the post-UTME screening examination for Obafemi Awolowo University while urging them to exert determined efforts to excel in the University, ensuring that their admission is justified.

He further cautioned the students against the pitfalls of viewing the University solely as a realm of boundless freedom without an accompanying sense of responsibility. He also encouraged them to integrate academic excellence with the ‘Omoluabi’ ethos in a challenging, competitive, and diverse academic setting.

The Vice-Chancellor restated that the institution strictly opposes cultism, examination malpractices, violent behaviour, blatant disrespect for authorities, and any form of sexual harassment. He congratulated the students, parents, and guardians, assuring them that their children are in safe hands and will receive comprehensive training while on campus.

Our correspondent while speaking with the University Spokesman on the number of matriculated students, Mr Abiodun Olanrewaju stated that the exact number of matriculated students can not be revealed as of press hour as the admission process is ongoing.
