Attempted robbery; OAU Students, residents worry amid inadequate security

Students of Obafemi Awolowo University and residents of Akrabata, the area where police foiled an attempted robbery on Monday, have expressed their worries on inadequate security in the area.

It should be recalled that this news outfit reported the attempted robbery and how it was interrupted by the Police.

According to an eyewitness account, the bandits who were sighted around 12:00pm were shooting sporadically in the air before the security operatives resisted their operations at the Ile-Ife branch of Diamond Bank.

When the Ife Police Area Commander, Funsho Adegboye, was contacted he said,  "there was an attempted robbery and based on the information that the public gave the police, we gave a hot chase."

"We alerted all our policemen and we were able to pursue them. The quick intervention of the police and the reinforcement of the commissioner of police in Osogbo prevented what would have been a robbery attack."

However, in an interview with OAU Kilonshele, students who live close to the area where the attempted robbery took place are worried and more concerned than ever about the lack of security in the area.

Uzodinma, a student of English Education department said "I'm afraid oh, this area that there is no security and this is even "Ember period," people are badly after money.

"I only have one property which is my laptop and I'm taking it to campus. The doors in this house are not even good, one kick is enough."
Damola, a student from Management and Accounting Department, added

Emmanuel, another resident in Owode said "this place is very close to bank area and this robbers might come back. This area is not secured at all,  no security, no vigilante.

OAU Kilonshele can confirm that there is actually no form of security in some areas that are close to Lagere where the robbery took place.
