ASUU STRIKE: NON-ACADEMIC STAFF UNIONS CONDUCT A REFERENDUM ON JOINING THE STRIKE ACTION, TODAY.



    On the 13th of August,  Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the National level after a meeting held in Abuja, embarked on a strike in protest against the non-payment and part-payment of their members' salaries, and the poor welfare and funding of Nigerian Universities.
    Many of the universities in Nigeria have been on strike. University of Lagos, University of Ibadan, Federal University of Technology Imo, Federal University of Technology Minna, amidst others have their schools shut down.
    Also, Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities(SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) have been been contemplating on whether to join the strike action or not in a meeting held at Abuja.
    However, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, which is referred to as the motherboard of ASUU in Nigeria is yet to join their National members in the strike action.
    In a statement of the Vice chancellor of the institution, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, he said;

    "Though I'm aware of the ASUU strike declared but up till now, I've not received any directives from any branch or chapter as regards embarking on strke. " 

    "ASUU OAU has not joined the strike because there are factions in the union and the VC does not know which one to receive letter from." Mr. Olusoji , a representative of the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) OAU,  said.

  Mr. Olusoji also stated in an interview with our correspondent that; a meeting with the VC was just concluded in the morning of today, 28 August and the meeting ended with a consensus that; embarking on the strike will be determined by a referendum by all non-academic unions.
    "We've sent a notice of meeting out already and the result of the referendum today will be sent and collated in all branches and that will determine whether we will join the strike or not."  He said.
    He made it known that if the referendum favours joining the strike action, then ASUU OAU is bound to also join the strike.

OAU RELEASES FINAL LIST FOR 2017/2018 ADMISSIONS.

Friday, 12th January, 2018. By Olufemi Alfred .O.     In lieu of a recent publication by OAU KILONSHELE about the release of admissions list despite the strike, it has been gathered that Obafemi Awolowo University has submitted the final lists of admitted candidates to the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) on the 10th of January.     However, JAMB has began the uploading of the names on the Caps  section of the website as about 20 students have been confirmed by OAU KILONSHELE  to have been admitted      All candidates (Direct Entry and JAMB applicants)  , awaiting their names should log on to the JAMB website and check if they have been admitted.

OAU ADMISSIONS MERIT LIST UPLOADED ON JAMB WEBSITE.

      Few days ago, OAU KILONSHELE posted the release of Obafemi Awolowo University merit list for 2017/2018 admissions, it has been confirmed that some of the aspirants have seen their names on  JAMB's website.       Admission status can be viewed on the CAPS section of the website.           Below are the step by step procedures to access JAMB CAPS 1. Visit jamb.org.ng/efacility  preferably using a PC or chrome browser on mobile. 2. Login with the credentials( email and password) you created your jamb account with. 3. After successfully logging in, click on the options button ( the button with 3 dash) at the top of the page. 4. You'll see CAPS under the tag 'Admissions'. Click on it and you'll be taken to the CAPS page. 5. If the page only shows 'welcome', do not be discouraged. Just click on options on your mobile's browser and change the view of the page to 'desktop view'. This is why it's preferable to use a PC. 6.
