After Five weeks of resumption,  some bed spaces in hostels are yet to be allocated as students of Obafemi Awolowo University now resort to begging the Division of Students Affairs (DSA), OAU KILONSHELE can report.

A survey done by our journalists revealed that some rooms are without occupants while others are under-occupied with one or two persons in the rooms.
A student of the department of English, whose name was withheld for security reasons, explained that he's the only one in his room in Awolowo hall.

"I've been the only one in the room since I resumed." He disclosed.

Also, an occupant of Fajuyi hall of residence, who spoke with OAU KILONSHELE, made it known that a room in his block is yet to be allocated.

Meanwhile, students of the university were spotted pleading for bed spaces at the DSA. While some were granted, others were told to check back.

Speaking with Oluwadamilola, a part four student of Philosophy, she related her plight at DSA
to our correspondent last week Tuesday.

She stated that she has been going to the Division of Student Affairs for
days due to lack of accommodation which she did not get in town and as well on campus and
stated that fortune is yet to smile on her.

Another student, Oluwasegun, who was fortunate to have been given a bed space in Fajuyi hall after his visit to the office of the Vice-dean of DSA, expressed excitement and a sense of relief.

"At last, I was considered for bed space." He exclaimed.

Chidera, a Part 3 student, is yet to resume as a result of the unavailability of accomodation within the school premises. With the hope of staying off campus, she said 'I'm yet to sort out accomodation.'

According to Yemisi, a student from
the faculty of Arts she lamented on the pitiable condition students coming from town experience every day to attend lectures.

She added that she spends over thirty minutes every day
before she can get a means of transportation into the campus, and recently, the lecturers
are not finding their lateness to classes very funny.

"My lecturers are not really helping things
as they keep questioning our lateness to classes and even with a threat of sending us out of the
class.” She said.

However, when contacted, Prof. Isiaka Aransi, the Dean of DSA, confirmed to one of our correspondent in a phone call on Saturday that there are still bed spaces yet to be allocated.

According to him, the remaining bed spaces are very few. He added that between Saturday (June 10, 2018) and Monday (11th of June, 2018) the remaining few bed spaces yet to be allocated will be allocated to students who are yet to get bed spaces.
“I want to say that we have a very few bed spaces yet to be allocated and we want to ensure that they are occupied as soon as possible between now and Monday. ” he said.
