AN INTERVIEW SESSION WITH THE DIRECTOR OF SPORTS OF THE STUDENTS' UNION.

Sir, for formality sake, what is your name?

OLUWAMICHAEL: My name is Adewunmi micheal oluwatosin.

Can you tell us briefly about yourself and your background?

OLUWAMICHAEL: I was born in ikere-ekiti to the family of Mr & Mrs adewunmi over 20years ago and the first of six children in my family. I attended ikere-ekiti grammar school and comprehensive high school ikere-ekiti and I gained admission into OAU in 2014.
I am currently the director of sports great ife student union.

Ok, as you know t’s 100days since you have been sworn in to office.what are your achievements so far?

OLUWAMICHAEL: My first achievement was leading over three hundred athletes to  pre-NUGA games in kwara state university and also leading over two hundred athletes to the NUGA games in university of makurdi,Benue state and we have also been able to organize competitions like inter-hall competitions in conjuction with MMM Nigeria.
I also struggled for the payment of outstanding allowances to the athletes and procurement of bedspace for the athletes though we are still on it.

What do you feel about the last congress and the released resolutions?

OLUWAMICHAEL: I wasn’t really following the congress until fights ensued among the congressmen.i noted the fact that there were petitions to suspend me and the only thing I can say about this is that the resolutions were doctored.

What is your take on the suspension of the speaker?

OLUWAMICHAEL: From the beginning to the end………….well the congress was not ended officially, there was no conclusion reached on the suspension of the speaker, and we have to note that congress resolution is higher than that of any office.

What do you have to say to the obvious division in the CEC?

OLUWAMICHAEL: The central executive council members are still together, but division comes in when it comes to monetary issues.

What is your take on the clash between the athletes and the akintola hall executives?

OLUWAMICHAEL: The clash was due to the arrogance and unreasonable acts on the part of the chairperson of the akintola hall.
She actually told me to come to her room when I and the athletes visited the hall to resolve the issue of bedspace and later she came down, when I was asking her questions, the next thing she said was that she didn’t hear all I have been saying, this actually annoyed the athletes, she went back to her room in which I followed her and engaged her in discussion.that was when I heard that the athletes and akintolites were fighting and when I came downstairs I saw only one quarter of the athletes that came with me.
The management also had a hand in this, the akintola hall was actually been allocated to freshers first then final year, sportswomen and requests, but they gave more priority to requests which is not suppose to be and we are still on it. I submitted 102 names to the dean DSA but only 5 were given bedspace.

A fourteen seaters bus was purchased bus was procured not long.what do you feel about it?

OLUWAMICHAEL: This issue was raised up in a meeting, rejected by minority and the majority had their way ,but there is difference between planning to buy a bus and actually buying the bus, that is, I didn’t know when the money was being given to the union and when the bus was bought.

Can you please describe the current administration.

OLUWAMICHAEL :The union was just  reinstated,so we need to correct a few things and now focus on progressing the union…..but if we continue like this,we will end up being called failure.

In your manifestoes, you promised free access to sporting facilities but that has not been…….why?

OLUWAMICHAEL :I met with the director of sports exactly a week in office on the issue of payment before we access our facilities and he replied by saying that the sports levy is used to maintain the sport facilities, and that the sport levy included in our school fees is going directly to the managements and not the sport council.we agreed that the training pitch and the 3rd pitch will be available for free use and that students should vacate the cricket pitch as the ban on the cricket team has been lifted and that they are still working on making the mainbowl accessible by students.

What are the challenges you have been facing so far?

OLUWAMICHAEL :The only problem we are facing now is lack of funds to carry out our plans ad projects.

What are your words to the generality of great ife students?

OLUWAMICHAEL :Whatever you might be doing, create time for sports because it will make you fit and healthy.
A  banker at 70 will not be able to do some things he could do when he was young but a professional who keeps fit by participating in sports will@70 be active.

Thanks very much for your time sir. Good day
