Damola Badmos The Council of Students Union Presidents in Nigeria has announced that its members will be storming the Federal Capital Territory for a peaceful protest if the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities is not called off. The organization which comprises all Students Union Presidents across Federal Universities in Nigeria had in a letter to the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, dated 19th July 2022, gave the Federal Government seven days ultimatum to resolve the disagreement with ASUU. In an interview held on Saturday, the CSUP Convener, Shuaib Yahaya, said all the Student leaders have resolved not to compromise on the decision to embark on the planned protest. According to the convener, the ongoing strike action has adversely affected students in the country, stressing that some now engage in illegal activities. The Nigerian President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has given the minister of education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, two weeks to resolve issues of contention regarding the strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities. The President gave the directive on Tuesday at a meeting with the minister and other relevant agencies. Buhari summoned the meeting to receive a briefing from the government representatives on why the strike had spanned for so long. The President, after hearing from the relevant ministries and departments, ordered the Minister of Education to ensure that the issues were resolved within two weeks and report back to him. OAU KILONSHELE   Dayo and Rukayat studied Engineering at a  University in Kwara State. They were both Classmates and after 5 years of academic hullabaloo, they both graduated. After graduation, fate took them through different paths in life.  5 years later, Rukayat after much frustration in securing a job, ended up as a secretary in a building construction firm earning 50,000 Naira monthly.  Meanwhile, Dayo on the other hand, couldn't secure a job and ended up a taxi driver, He makes at least 5,000 Naira daily and if he works for only 20 days a month, he makes about 100,000. One evening, Rukayat closed from work and was at the bus stop waiting for a taxi when the taxi Dayo drives stopped to pick her up. She hopped in when she discovered the taxi was going her way but little did she know it was Dayo.  Olabode Oluwafemi A Great Ife Students' Union Students' Representative Council member, has posed an accusation finger at the executive cabinet of the Great Ife Students' Union of betraying the struggle[protest] aimed at curtailing the ongoing three months Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU industrial action that has crippled academic activities across Nigerian state and federal Universities. The accusation was contained in a Facebook post made by one of the members of the Students' Representative Council, Sumbade Jnr, he wrote that they sold out the struggle for monetary gain. The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile -Ife, has declared a two-week mid-semester break, beginning from March 28, 2022. This was stated in a release made on Saturday, signed by the university’s registrar, Mrs Magaret Idowu Omosule. The statement read: “ This is to inform staff and students of the university that Management, at a meeting held today, Saturday, 26th March, 2022, approved a two-week mid-semester break for students beginning from Monday, 28th March, 2022. “We wish students of the university an enjoyable break. ” The university had since been rocked with series of protests by a group of Ife indigenes who reacted to the non-appointment of Ife indigene as the Vice Chancellor of the university. The protest was, however, recently suspended.

Oyesola Victor Group of traditionalists spotted staging protest at motion ground     Ife indigenes resumed protest today, the 21st of March 2022 at 6a.m and hindered movement in and out of the main gate of Obafemi Awolowo University.  The protesters asked students and other stakeholders to go back to their hostels and homes. Phones of students attempting to make videos of the incident were reportedly seized. People who attempted to force their way into the school were allegedly beaten.        The protesters were found carrying banners saying “Ife4VC”. A banner was spotted at the school gate reading “Ogunbodede tell lies against Ife. He is a betrayal and a traitor.”  A group of traditionalists were also sighted among the protesters chanting traditional songs.
