The institute of Advanced Legal Studies led by its Director, Professor Deji Adekunle, has visited the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife as part of the institute’s efforts at initiating and solidifying relationships with reputable universities within and beyond the shores of the country.
Recounting how the institute was birthed, Professor Adekunle stated that the journey started some years back, but that about fifteen (15) years ago, the Commonwealth requested that a programme be instituted for regional training given the peculiarity of the mandate of the institute as the only one that trains lawyers at the very advanced levels.
He further explained that since the introduction of its postgraduate diploma programme, the IALS has been experiencing a lot of enrolments of people from different Faculties of Law and Schools, noting that with the partnership being concretized with OAU, new doors of opportunities are being made available to the enrollees in the programmes of the IALS.
Quoting him,
“the institute has seen very huge success over the years. We are looking forward to a blend of the Faculties of Law in the country in our partnership drive, especially with OAU, because we utilize OAU Faculty staff like Professor Popoola, Professor Adesina among others.”
In his remark at the reception for the IALS delegation, the Provost of the Postgraduate College, Professor Gbenga Alebiowu, expressed great delight at the partnership stating that the details made available to him revealed immense benefits for the two establishments.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor said the University has no reservation whatsoever in signing the MoU, as the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies is not a hidden one; and with the involving of the former Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Demola Popoola, the partnership is bound to be a great deal.
Professor Ogunbodede, however, admonished the teaching staff in the Faculty of Law to be ready for, and be committed to the delivery of the expectations of the MoU with respect to the programmes to be introduced at the Faculty.
