NESA OAU Holds 9th Edition of Annual Conference

 


Nigerian Economics Students' Obafemi Awolowo University has kickstarted its 9th edition of annual conference tagged "Prospects For Economic Growth: Increasing Youth Employability." 

The event had in attendance student delegates from different varsities namely; Bowen University, University of Osun, Kwara State University, Lead City University, Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba, Ibrahim Babangida University Lapai and other dignitaries across several business fields.

The Head of Department of Economics, Prof. B. A Folorunsho in his welcome address stated he yearns every attendee can acquire knowledge from his 33 years of journey and experience in Obafemi Awolowo University as a student and lecturer at the 2-day conference. 

"Despite our relentless efforts towards ensuring equal opportunities for all, it is very unfortunate that we have not been able to completely address the problem of high rate of youth unemployment. Indeed youth unemployment is a great concern and we should not overlook it." He added. 

One of the speakers, Olutoyin Ayoade in his lecture titled" The role of creativity and innovation in promoting economic growth and increasing youth employability", while juxtaposing the advanced countries to the third world countries highlighted the educational system as one of the challenges of youth employability in Nigeria. 

He further stated how Nigerian youths can get themselves secured in combating the problem of employability by equipping themselves with; Digital literacy, problem-solving skills, global citizenship, entrepreneurship, communication skills, adaptability, fast learning, self-knowledge and emotional intelligence. 

The event also features inter-varsity quizzes among 7 Universities with OAU emerging as the winner, Bowen University first runner-up and Adekunle Ajasin University second runner-up. 

The grand finale is to take place at Oduduwa Hall on Wednesday by 10:00 am.
