Great Ife Election: OAU Electoral Commission Assures Free, Fair, and Credible Election

The body of OAU students' union electoral commission chaired by Ajayi Oluwafemi, popularly known as FM Castro, held a conference with OAU press men (ACJ OAU) on Saturday morning as regards the fast approaching students' union election. 


The election, which is getting competitive with high number of turn up of aspirants, will hold as already stipulated on the unveiled electoral calendar: HEC election - Saturday, August 28th. CEC election - Wednesday, September 1st. SRC election- Thursday, September 2nd. SRC leadership election - Thursday September 9th.


Each faculty allocated with SRC seats:  Arts 13, Education 13, Social Sciences 13, Law 12, EDM 13, Pharmacy 13, Sciences 13, Agriculture 13, Dentistry 5, and others, all summed up to 150 seats.


According to the chairman, FM Castro, the election will hold as scheduled except for the date for submission of candidates' form which has been changed in the new release as there is need for ready availability of the electoral materials - especially ballot papers which will be made available on the day before the elections.


The committee however stressed the adoption of academic performance of the minimum 2.5 CGPA for every aspirants in the electoral screening process. Also, the electoral screening process will be singlehandedly anchored by the electoral committee without any interference by external body, according to the electoral Chairman. 


He reiterated the assurance of free, fair, and credible election. "Even though there has been no absolute fair election in human political history," as stated by him.
