Monday, 29th January, 2018.      The 2016 edition of the West African University Games (WAUG), initially scheduled to hold between November 22 to December 4, 2016 at the university of Port Harcourt, has been set to come up within October 31 and November 11, 2018.    Arrival of participants starts on the 31st of October, the opening Ceremony on the 3rd of November and everything comes to an end with the closing ceremony on the 11th of November.       This was decided upon last week in a meeting of West African Universities directors of sports at the University of Porthacourt. By Olufemi Alfred      The lecture free week, preceeding the rain semester examination of the students of Obafemi Awolowo University, starts today.     However some students have tests fixed for this week and that's against the university rules as all academic activities are meant to end on the last day of lectures.      As confirmed by OAU KILONSHELE in an interview with students, many of those who fall into this category, complained of the  limited time available for the preparation towards the examinations.       Abayomi Oladele, a final year student of the department of Mechanical engineering, told our correspondent about the Five looming tests that he'll be writing this week.    The final year student complained that the school is trying to balance the calendar at the detriment of the students' results.    "Many people will fail this semester." he said.   ...

By Dosunmu Ayodeji.    Since the reopening of the new buka by Obafemi Awolowo University management, few weeks ago, turn-out of customers has been drained down.     Following the murder incident that happened in Oau new buka, late last year, which left the management with no choice but to lock it down, and now reopened about a week before resumption of the second half of the semester.  On our correspondent's visit to new buka, managers of some eateries and bars lamented to our correspondent on the total low turn- out of customers, which has totally crippled sales.     Our correspondent could also affirm, seeing countable numbers of customers and lots of empty chairs waiting to be filled. By Olufemi Alfred .O.      Following the widely circulated news report, which alleged the Obafemi Awolowo University chapter of Association of Campus Journalists to have demanded the sum of 5 million naira from the university management for a leadership summit, the writer, Bamidele Williams of PigeonPost, a Campus News hub, was confirmed to have begged the Dean of the Division of Students Affairs, Isiaka Aransi, after the acknowledgement of the errors in his reportage.       The allegations posted online, as reported by OAU KILONSHELE, was sent by the news hub on the 17th of January. By Olufemi Alfred .O.      The attention of the public has been drawn to a widely circulated news piece, which stated that the Association of Campus Journalists, Obafemi Awolowo University chapter, demanded the sum of 5 million naira from the university management for a leadership summit. The leadership of the Association in question reacted to the allegations levelled against the aegis of Campus Journalists.     The news piece written by Bamidele Williams, a campus journalist, sent online on Wednesday, stated 'ACJ OAU in a 5 million unholy connivance with the management'.    The Association of Campus Journalists, Obafemi Awolowo University chapter, has disclosed in a public release that the body will put up an opinion poll, both online and offline. The poll is aimed at gathering the opinions of students on whether the suspended students'  union should be reinstated or not.    The release dated, 14th of January, had it that the aegis of writers frowns at the suspension of the students union activities.   "Other students are not to suffer as a result of the misdemeanours of the suspended union leaders."    In a bid to garner the opinions of students and present the results to the public, the association has put up the opinion polls on online platforms and designated news boards on campus.    Click to  Vote

Monday, 15th January, 2018. By Olufemi Alfred .O.      Yesterday marked the first day of the week-long annual Obatala festival at the ancient Ile-ife city. At the Oduduwa hall of Obafemi Awolowo University, the Vice Chancellor of the varsity, professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, emphasised the need for the promotion of the African culture in our country and beyond at the international colloquium.      As witnessed by OAU KILONSHELE, the Don spoke in his native language, Yoruba, through out the delivery of his address and explained how the university has been upholding the culture of the Yorubas.
