Obasanjo advises OAU students on way out of unemployment in Nigeria.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has given insights on job opportunities for youths, particularly in the agricultural sector, as a way of bringing an end to the problem of unemployment in the country.
The erstwhile President, while speaking at a job fair in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, on Thursday spoke on the topic; "unemployment in Nigeria: The Way Out".
He stated that there are job opportunities all around the country, especially at the agro businesses.
"Being a sole business person in the agricultural business, I had discovered the great job opportunities in agriculture."
Mr. Obasanjo owns one of the largest farms in Nigeria, located in Sang-Ota area of Ogun state with varieties of poultry, livestock and food products.
As gathered by OAU KILONSHELE, one of Mr. Obasanjo’s farms was one of the sixteen businesses that were shut down for defaulting in the payment of the environmental development levy to the Oyo state government in September.
In his address to the students, he noted that the only problem is that, we are yet to discover these opportunities simply because of the system that seems not to be encouraging the platform for youths.
He further added that the realities of the 21st century Nigeria can not do away completely from agriculture.
"This means that, it is very important we start discovering the immense opportunities in agriculture by embracing agriculture passionately," He advised
Among several companies which honoured the ocassion with opportunities such as CV checking, consultations, job Offers are Julius Berger Nig. PLC, Portion Consult and Brick-House Construction company LTD.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Eyitope Ogunbodede, while giving his speech added that it is quite unfortunate to note that the present system is unable to create jobs for job seekers.
"The present curriculum in the university is currently undergoing a design to bridge this gap. And this has been going on through the various seminars the university has been organising and hosting to ensure that what ever courses every students offered on this campus will be able to equip them for the current Job challenge."
Mr. Ogunbodede, a professor of Dental Public Health, highlighted that the aim in the curricular design is to ensure that every students stand on their own and earn a living shortly after school.
He added that several organisations like First Bank PLC have been partnering with the university to achieve this aim of job creation.
"Whatever that you are doing and you are doing it well, please continue," he encouraged students.
Still speaking on Job fair, the President of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Survey, Oluwole Onosile, pointed out that the first thing is to leave your place of abode and explore smartly by thinking and pursuing what you want to become shortly after completing one's undergraduate programme.
Mr Oluwole added that in job adventure, all what is needed is to rebrand one's self to suit what is needed.
"You can do this by first, bench match your CV to match the needed requirements because your CV is your face which your employer see before they eventually meet you. So, you have to sell your face with your CV by preparing yourself because no one who begs for job actually end up getting it. So, Just prepare for it and you will have the job".
