Students Demand Immediate Renovation of Deteriorating 1k Sitters Lecture Theatre

The Renovation Needs Assessment Building, known as 1k sitters, is in dire need of salvation. Once a convenient lecture room for one thousand students, it has deteriorated into a space with collapsed, dusty, rusty, and uncomfortable chairs. Many are broken; others have fallen, and tables are damaged, creating a chaotic atmosphere.

Olusanmi Blessing, a concerned student, shared: "It's a cool lecture theatre with a public address system, we can hear the lecturers clearly. The only issue are the seats. What was barely sufficient is now reducing in numbers. The authorities should please address this," she said.

Esther Ibukunoluwa Adesina expressed disappointment: "I had classes there in my first year, so I've seen how it was. Now, in my second year, I no longer use the lecture theatre. However, I recently visited with a friend to study, and we were shocked and disappointed by its deteriorated state. We had to leave and find another study space," she said.

"If a theatre isn't maintained, it reflects poorly on the school. If left unaddressed, conditions will worsen and renovation costs will increase."

Students also complained about poor ventilation and faulty PA systems. Beulah, a freshman, added: "The chairs are not in good condition. Like one-third of all the chairs are in bad condition. When we have courses like Literature, people have to sit on the floor because the chairs are spoilt. The ceilings are in bad shape. It's usually littered. When I saw the 1k sitter in my first class, I was disappointed. Cobwebs were all over; the surviving chairs are dirty and unkempt. A student will have to first dust the chairs before sitting. It's unkempt. Even with a PA system, those at the back can't hear anything. It's overcrowded, and there's no proper ventilation - no fans, no air conditioner. Those of us offering LIT and EGL are more than 1,000. I'd suggest they fix the chairs, clean the hall, fix the ceilings, and provide louder PA systems. We freshmen contributed over 100,000 naira for our own class, but what would suffice for a class of 150 can't cover the entire hall with over a thousand students," she said.

The students urge the university administration, government, and relevant authorities to intervene and take immediate action to address the issues plaguing the 1k Sitters lecture theatre to restore it back to its former glory.
