Elections: NAPS Electoral Commission Holds Debate and Manifesto for Candidates
The debate and manifesto of the department of philosophy organized by the electoral committee at the topmost floor of the department, in view of the election scheduled to hold on the 21st of June 2024, was insightful, deliberative, expository, and engaging.
Contestants for each political office all groomed and prepared, reeled off their blueprints and manifesto plans in consonant with their agendas when elected into respective offices. The president of the department, Adewale Comfort Adeola, popularly known as Princess, apologized for the lateness in the schedule of the program which ought to have started earlier but was delayed due to some issue within the department which demands urgent attention.
The manifesto then kick started immediately after the president's apologetic remark with the Great Ife anthem led by the electoral committee chairman, Olaniyi Boluwatife David, popularly known as Tife David. The chairman further proceeded by acknowledging the presence of the president and other executive members on seat and as well recognize the presence of the erstwhile Vice President, Oreoluwa Oguntade for gracing the occasion with her presence.
The chairman then warned that each contestant should be conscious of time and be as specific as possible about what they intend to tell the audience (electorate) on their manifesto. The Chairman then beckoned on the contestant for the position of Assisting General Secretary (AGS), Oguntoju Tolulope, known as Mummy GO, to step forward to give her manifesto plan
Tolulope succinctly states that if elected, she would ensure inclusivity and as well partner with her principal officer in the dissemination of apt and accurate information.
As well, the contestant for the position of Financial Secretary, Osuolale Oluwanifemi, in her manifesto plans, said, if elected she would judiciously manage the department's finances and sustainably account for every bit of Kobos spent under her watch. Also, she maintained that if elected, her wealth of experience will help her in sailing successfully as a financial secretary and as well determinedly manage the association's account shrewdly.
For the position of treasurer, Opeyemi Adebayo, a part 1 student of the department, vying for the position of treasurer in the department, pledges to uphold the standard of the department and shrewdly manage the finance. She further promised, if elected, that she would ensure there was accurate and constant update of the association's financial record.
While, Aasa Adedamola David, popularly known as David, a part 2 student of the department, promises to, if elected as the PRO, to create an active and effective communication link with all NAPSITES. For John Oluwabode, a part 2 student of the department, who also is vying for the position, intuitively makes a claim that he will collaboratively work with other executives in ensuring apt and effective communication is disseminated timely.
For the position of Director of Sport, Akinsete Oluwajomiloju, popularly known as Jomi, a part 2 student of the department, contesting for the position, acknowledged the impact and impart of the current DOS, but added that he would ensure, if elected, to champion sport programs that would be inclusive to both men and women of the department and as well facilite sporting programs and events that will create a plain level field for all sport men and women of the department.
Adeyanju Omolola, a part 2 student of the department, contesting for the position of Director of Social, in her word, said, if elected, she would not only champion party which is mostly conceived by most students but initiate some other mind-building and social-engaging, like game day and other fun-centric programs for the department.
Also, Ogunshina Oluwaferanmi, popularly known as Muller, maintained that, if elected, he would partner with sponsors to promote social activities that will go beyond the traditional freshers' and dinner party the department has and intuitively initiate new social events that will be fun-filled. Muller further said, through his experience, working assiduously with the recent DOS in bringing sponsors on board with the recently concluded NAPS week, if elected, he maintained, would replicate and further initiate more progressive social events for all NAPSITES.
For the position of General Secretary, Amos Olakunle Bewaji, with the sobriquet Kizer, a part 2 student of the department, promised to be transparent in his discharge of duty and reawaken the analytic mind of the department which has gone comatose over the years. Kizer further said, if elected, he would, in partnership with executives, promote an all-inclusive administration.
For the position of Vice President, Okoh Ijeoma Praise, politically known as Lady Praise, promises to work hand-in-hand with the president and other executive officers to work in the interest of all NAPSITES and ensure the interest of all NAPSITES is not eroded and as well promised to partner with her principal to collaboratively execute developmental programs in the department without any form of prejudice and preference in the discharge of her duty.
On the other hand, Oluwatomisin Alabi, also an aspirant for the position of the Vice President, as well maintained, if elected, that she would partner with her principal and the executives in promoting and facilitating academic-oriented programs. Principally, as claimed, her major aim was to assist the president in achieving a milestone and uphold the core value of the department at all times.
Ojo Samuel Ayomide, politically known as , PsalmVice a part 3 student of the department, contesting for the position of the President, promises to promote innovation, inclusivity, and reclaiming the department library that is not functioning again. Again, PsalmVice, in his manifesto promises to partner with alumni to proactively initiate developmental programs and source funds from affiliates and friends of the department.
As well, Adekunle Micheal, popularly known as FishMane, also vying for the position of the President, promises to facilitate interdisciplinary programs and be fair and accountable to all NAPSITES in his discharge of duty if elected. He said, “With my experience, serving currently as the Gen Sec of the department, I have pools of experience in championing equitable and knitted administration which is open to all philosophy students and as well listen to the voices of all NAPSITES.
In conclusion, the Department of Philosophy's manifesto emphasizes a commitment to academic excellence, student welfare, and transparent governance. The preparations for tomorrow's election are in full swing, with security measures and logistical arrangements meticulously planned to ensure a smooth process. NAPSITES expects all aspirants vying for political offices to demonstrate integrity, clear vision, and a genuine commitment to addressing the needs and concerns of the department. The anticipation is high as students look forward to electing leaders who will uphold these values and work tirelessly for the betterment of the department.
