Students' Union Electoral Commission Holds Press Conference, Promises to Uphold Safety of Electorates

The Great IFE Students' Union Electoral Commission has on Wednesday, June 19th, held its Press Conference. The Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Taofeek Ogunperi was present at the venue to answer questions from campus reporters of the Association of Campus Journalists, OAU.
While speaking on the election schedules, the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Taofeek Ogunperi noted that candidates have been informed on the procedures of the Elections. He further stated that the election process will begin with the Hall Executive Council elections in all the Halls of Residence on Saturday, June 22th, while announcement of results follow afterwards.
In addition, Taofeek Ogunperi stated that, the results of the Central Executive Council will be Announced after 48 hours. 'The Election result will be announced on Thursday, June 27th', Tao said.
In its promise of making the election to be free and fair, the Electoral Commission, through its Chairman also assured the electorates of their safety and security during the elections, he stated that uniform and ID cards will be made available for men of the security unit of the University who will be present at the polling units to ensure adequate security of electorates, reporters, and Electoral commissioners. He also stated that there will be prevention of stampede of voters.
He noted that the Division of Students' Affairs, last session, rejected the electronic mode of voting due to the likelihood of manipulations. Speaking on the physical mode of Voting, the Chairman said the Commission is waiting for the University to send the lists of students that are eligible to vote.
Conclusively, the Commission emphasized the readiness to be time conscious and work closely with members of the press to ensure there is accuracy, transparency and accountability in the election process.
