Agricultural and Environmental Engineering Students' Society, Obafemi Awolowo University has come out to set things straight as regards the collection of used water in Mozambique hall of residence.
The campus witnessed a commotion on Wednesday, after Rabiu Olalere Musa, a part 4 student of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering was found collecting used water from Mozambique hall of residence, a female hostel.
Although Mr Rabiu claimed to have got approval from the Division of Students' Affairs, according to reports and eye witnesseses, Mr. Rabiu's claim was first denied by the Dean, Isiaka Aransi.
The event led to a protest on Wednesday and still causing unrest as a result of the circumstances surrounding it and recent trends of money rituals.
However, the department's students' society has come out to make clarifications in a statement signed by the President and the General Secretary, Oluwayemi Andrew and Abaogun Oluwapelumi respectively.
In the release sent to this news outfit, the society made it known that Mr Rabiu is actually a student of the department and that he is using the water for practical.
"The male student - Rabiu Olalere Musa is a final year student of the department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering and it is a common knowledge that all final year students are to undergo a research project. Mr. Rabiu is not an exception."
" His project topic is: "CHARACTERIZATION AND REUSE OF GREYWATER IN OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY HOSTELS" and he is being duly supervised by a senior lecturer in the department."
"This requires that he goes to "ALL" halls of residence in the school to collect greywater to use to carry out this project and in realizing this, he headed to the Division Of Students Affairs to learn how to gain access to the greywater."
"He was asked to write a letter which he did and there's a copy for everyone who wants to see. He informed the porters of the halls and showed them the approved letter from the DSA and his request was granted."
The release also pointed out that Mozambique hall of residence is not the first hall of residence where Mr Rabiu is collecting the grey water from.
"It must be said however that today is not the first time he's collecting the greywater from the halls without an hitch."
The association also urged students to desist from spreading rumours that can tarnish the image of Mr Rabiu.
"There's another claim by some group of students that he was sent by the Dean, DSA to collect the greywater for diabolical use. This is nothing but a blatant lie."
"We are imploring the generality of students to please desist from rumours that can tarnish the image of the law-abiding, God-fearing Rabiu. Any peaceful questions can be directed to the department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering and would be duly answered."
