For the second time, the Vice-chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, promised the reinstatement of the Students' union activities in the school with no definite time, OAU KILONSHELE can report.
As mentioned on Wednesday evening, in his address at the Football finals of the university's Inter-faculty games, the VC assured the students present that he will see to the reinstatement of the Union.
"If not for my participation in the students union while I was an undergraduate, I would not become the Vice-chancellor today. I will make sure we bring back the union, though we have hall executives in our hostels."
Meanwhile, when the audience of students questioned the time for the reinstatement, chanting "when?", Professor Eyitope proceeded with his speech without addressing the probing audience. He was booed afterwards.
Mr. Ogunbodede spoke on the plans of the management to build more hostels on campus as many proposals from the Alumni body and parents of students to construct new hostels have been received.
"most of them promised to build more hostels for free and we will give them lands." He said.
While speaking on the welfare of students, he made it known that the university has received support from various bodies to ease the transportation crisis on campus.
"They've contributed towards getting buses for students. In some other schools, transportation within the campus is free. We can also do that here."
Pointing to a truck full of students, who are unable to get buses to convey them to the school gate, he added saying ;"That will soon be over."
However, the football game ended with a goal against none between the Post graduate college and the faculty of Education. The PG college clinched the golden trophy, while the Faculty of Education went home with the silver trophy and medals.
Gold medals were also presented to the invited guests like the Former Senator Iyiola Omisore and the top officers of the university.
In an interview with our newsmen, students commented on the VC's address and promise to reinstate the union at no definite time.
Ibrahim Jubril, a Part 3 student of the department of Political science, said the VC, in his usual manner, has promised again without effects.
'I hope he'll fulfil that anytime soon' He buttressed.
Another student, Muhammed Adejoke, reflected that the VC was only trying to be political so that the students will not hold his words against.
It should be recalled that this news outfit reported the suspension of the students union activities of Obafemi Awolowo University on the 7th of November 2017 owing to several allegations leveled against the leadership of the union by the university management.
