OAU Union Leader Promises To Fast Track Reactivation Of Arraigned Students' Studentship .
Alfred Olufemi.
Following the dismissal of the court case against Five students of Obafemi Awolowo university and the uncertainties surrounding the reactivation of their studentship, OAU workers' union leaders have showed their readiness to intervene.
As reported by OAU KILONSHELE and pronounced by Justice Omisade, the students' case was struck out yesterday for the inability of the State's counsel to provide a legal advice document after the 6th adjournment.
It should also be recalled that the Five students were arrested and arraigned on 21st and 22nd respectively for resisting the eviction of students from Moremi, a female hostel in the school.
In an interview with Comrade Wole Odewumi, the Chairman OF the Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU OAU, he revealed the intention of the union to intervene so as to fast track the reactivation process.
Odewumi, who said he's working with Mr Samson Oketunde, the Chairman of Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) in OAU, further disclosed that they've met with some dignitaries in Ile-Ife and the university community.
"We've set with some persons even before the case was dismissed in the court."
"We didn't foresee the dismissal of the case. Getting that yesterday was the least expected." He added
"Now that the case is out of court, it will help fast track the reactivation process because some persons are involved already."
However, speaking with one of the students present in a meeting with the leadership of the two unions, Binzak Azeez, OAU KILONSHELE learnt that another meeting has been fixed for Tuesday to that effect.
