OAU 5: COURT ADJOURNS STUDENTS' CASE FOR THE 6TH TIME.
Alfred Olufemi.
for the 6th time, the magistrate court at Ajebandele, Ile-Ife, has adjourned the case of the Five students of Obafemi Awolowo University facing trials.
The students; Oloniran Gbenga, Oyedeji Samson, Jimoh Oladipupo, OlaJide Ademola and Adeniji John, were arrested on the 21st of March as a result of allegations leveled against them by the school management.
It should be recalled that this news outfit reported the arrest of the students during the eviction of students from Moremi hall of residence because they resisted the process.
The dates for previous adjournment include; April 3, April 29, May 12, May 24, June 4
Justice Omisade F.I. tendered the delay by the state's defense counsel to provide an advisory release from the state,as the reason for the adjournment.
' We are giving the state's counsel another week to provide the advisory release.' He declared.
However, though not granted, the defense counsel of the docked students, Barr. Olawale, pleaded that the judge should strike out the case until the state is able to provide the necessary documents.
"These students are going through a psychological trauma and I am also coming from Lagos every time to attend to this case." The defense counsel cited.
"I want to beg this court to strike out this case pending the verdict from the state. Whether positive or negative." He pleaded.
The case was adjourned to the 14th of June after much deliberations with both parties.
Students, who attended the court session as observers, lamented the adjournment saying it's a delay tactics aimed at destabilizing the students psychologically.
A female student, Pedro Rose said; 'this is the 6th time this case will be adjourned. The judge has compromised.'
Afolabi Alawode, another student likened the adjournment to a way of oppressing the students and to silence their will.
"This is nothing but oppression. No credits to the university management." he added.
Meanwhile, as confirmed by our journalist, the online portal pages of the students have been inaccessible and they cannot register courses for the new session, which implies that their studentship is not active.
One of the students docked, Oyedeji Samson, told OAU KILONSHELE about how he has been unable to register for Harmattan semester courses meant for the session after 4 weeks of resumption .
' I'm even fed up. I can't do my course registration.' He complained.
