OAUTHC Crisis: Staff Raise Concerns Over Unpaid Salary and Qualifications of CMD
Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC) is grappling with a crisis as the Association of Unpaid Staff (AOUS) releases a communique in response to the management's reaction following a peaceful protest regarding the non-payment of fourteen months' salary.
In the wake of yesterday's demonstration by disgruntled workers, who endured several months without pay, the Association of Unpaid Staff (AOUS) has issued a communique challenging the explanations given by OAUTHC management. The core concern expressed by AOUS revolves around broader issues in the Nigerian educational system, specifically questioning the credibility of professors and leadership roles in health institutions.
The controversy deepens with the Chief Medical Director, Mr. Okeniyi John, being at the center of the storm. AOUS questions the legality of the employment of 2,054 individuals since June 2022, asserting that some were paid while others were left without compensation, raising questions of fairness and equity.
Furthermore, the communique challenges Mr. Okeniyi's administrative qualifications, stating that his handling of nominal roles raises doubts about his competence. AOUS emphasizes that their appointment letters were issued by constituted authority and demands equal treatment, emphasizing that they are no less Nigerian and deserve fairness.
The association concludes by reminding the CMD that the waiver in question pertains to 2022, raising concerns about the future and insisting on being treated with dignity. The ongoing situation, marked by protests and terminations, underscores the deep-seated issues facing OAUTHC and the urgent need for resolution.
